When i was a jw i liked the standard rock & roll everybody else liked. As an apostate, i like mozart, choir, sinead oconnor for example. Why? Good question. The human voice has something special. It's the right vibes for me, i guess.

Growing up as a JW, classical music was not played in my home. When I was a teenager, I bought both rock and roll and classical music and have listened to both ever since.

    My favorites:

    Handel's Water Music
    Beethoven's Choral Symphany
    March Slav by Tchkovsky (sp)
    Fingle's Cave Overture
    Finlandia
Ride of the Vulcurrie's (sp) by Wagner
    Bach's Brandenburg Concerto's
Piano Concerto in F by Gershwin.
New World Symphany by Dvorshac (sp)

These have been on the twirly thing this week :

Ravel, Debussy, Satie, Vaughan Williams, Michael Tippett, Stockhausen, Albinoni, Pergolesi, Faure, The Butterfield Blues Band......Hhh!

Music is speech of the heart, it is the only true language. I connect with impressionism in art and music because to me in embodies the perfect marriage of emotion and science. All the above composers are reflective of this connection of discipline and passion.

Same tastes both sides of the Empire.

    Love Verdi's Va Pensiero.

    Widors wedding march.

    Tchaikovsky's Pathetique.

Just getting into Saint Saen, bit oompah-ish maybe.

I am IN, and I dislike close to all classical music; a bit of the romantic type a la Czech composers I like, and - fasten your seat belts - Gregorian church music or choirs or whatever you call it. Otherwise? Rock & roll, blues and the good old '68-type of music.
    C&W? No way!

    Hi Celtic,

I love classical music! My all-time favorite is Mozart. Such an impulsive soul. Unexpected turns. My kind of guy. There are others but my heart belongs to Wolfie.

LOL you askin a redneck cracker what classical music she likes? Harhar..."I don't know from art but I know what I like" and doncha HATE when us goobers say that?

Here's some of what I like:

    anything Mozart
    Orff: Carmina Burana
    most JS Bach
Rach #3 (Helfgott's recording is nice)
Ravel's Bolero when played by Frank Zappa's road band (a genuine hoot)
I like the tinkly romantic syrupy stuff like 'l'apres-midi de l'un faun' (isn't that Debussy?)
Grieg: Peer Gynt Suite is a fave

a lot of classical music gives me a pain in my fundament. Of course a lot of music from all genres does that to me. As Sturgeon's Law notes, '90% of everything is crap' (although I maintain he underestimated). In this as in so much of life, one must sift through tons of dross to find the gold.

I really like Charlotte Church, she is an amazing child and her style is maturing without all the ego that so many talented singers inject into their work. Although most opera leaves me cold, some of the arias she performs are just stunning.

Now when you gonna ask about country music, or western music, or folk, or psychedelic rock, or bluegrass, or klezmer, or gospel, or swing...?

    Love as per usual,
    Mommie D.

    Good question!

I'm receptive to all classical music; I love some of it, withl at least give all a try. The big names (especially the Three Bees and Mozart) are truly special, even scary in their genius.
I love vocal music, mostly opera, although oratorios and art songs (i.e German lieder) can be thrilling. It's my feeling that the human voice is the most glorious instrument of all.
