I realize that, after going through the 12 steps, some people keep it as a religion. As usual, some people need a religion to keep them straight. If so, that is still better than doing the scamming, crime, and/or prostitution to which so many addicts lower themselves. At least they are able to lead reasonable lives.

On the other hand, those that continue to see it as a religion are in the minority. The 4 that i know, who went through the 3 month program, only one is religious about it, and she has just recently gone through it. A newborn, so to speak. W time, i'm sure she will grow out of it, as well.

I completely agree with you there, Avashi. That's one thing that has been lacking in my family members 'recovery' is her responsibility. That and her 'recovery' isn't going so well. I wouldn't expect it to either after the fallout of her addiction - her fault or not.

If drugs were legalized then drug dealers would instantly be out of business.

Tax it like we do alcohol, use that tax for rehab programs.

Inprisoning drug users, or dealers does not solve the problem. It just makes users/dealers lives more complicated.

When life gets complicated users use more, and dealers deal more.

people have struggled with addiction due to depression amongst other issues. To those, they need help.

Some have NO VALID REASON why they decided to try these drugs and get addicted to them.

And you can tell the difference?? There is a reason Jesus told us not to judge one another.

P.S. There is no difference. Virtually ALL addicts have suffered emotional trauma. The addiction is a form of self-medication. Until the emotional trauma is adequately treated, the addiction will most likely prevail. In the meantime our government puts almost no importance on the treatment of mental health disorders. And even if one is lucky enough to have health insurance, most cover no more than 50% of the cost of treatment, making treatment unaffordable. THAT (among other things) is what is ruining our country.

I kind of agree. Drug addiction is very selfish. It ruined my childhood and later on I got hooked too. I blame myself. I had a problem but when the whole world is making excuses like "its a disease" and "they can't help it" its kinda giving an excuse. I have a daughter now and would never go back to that life. It was my fault I was tearing my family apart. I quit as soon as I realized what I was doing to myself and the people who were trying to help me. There is no excuse for drug addiction. Just stop being selfish. PS my stepdad (whom I was very close to) passed away due to drug use. Leaving behind a heartache and ruin

    Tryingtomakeit,

Probably the best post I've seen on this thread. I cannot understand how difficult it must have been to cut out that lifestyle, and make it. Persons like you I applaud.

MMae, you just don't understand what we've gone through. Until she can help herself, and truly wants to quit, there is no point in even trying. It's enabeling, and we're not doing it. She's been enabeled for years and years.

If the government could control the revenue from these drugs like it does alcohol and tobacco, they would have been legalized long ago.

But why not put cyanide in tobacco, and poison the alcohol supply.

That would kill of even more undesirables.

Your so uneducated on the subject of addiction that you should not even of posted your opinion, you sound stupid, and the solution you come up with is even stupider, go do some research before you open your big mouth, I'm sure there is probably someone in your own family or circle of friends (if you have any) that are probably addicted to alcohol(which is a drug-called ethyl alcohol) prescription med's or street drugs, and you probably are not even aware of it. There are bigger problems affecting our country(s) than drug addiction, try illegal immigration and corrupt politicians on for size, how about the drug companies that financially rape our old folks and hold back putting new and better drugs on the market because the old ones are still bringing in millions. There are more important issues than a small percentage of druggies, get your head screwed on straight fella.
