Hillary, I won't suggest a song but I know of other ways that might help you to weep.

Hillary, when I listen to Patches by Clarence Carter it's hard not to cry. And believe it or not, the sappy Honey by Bobby Goldsboro. Oh yeah and Shannon by Henry Gross. My brother died the same time it was popular, so it brings back those grief feelings.

    Leo,

Setting the Beatles and Led Zeppelin aside, Surrealistic Pillow was hands-down the best album of the '60s. Just my biased opinion.

Yes, it was an iconoclastic work, though it would be hard to explain to people not around then just how, a bit like trying to explain to the "Star Trek" generation, just how powerful a movie "Forbidden Planet" was. "Today" from "Pillow" is a magnificent song too.

I think one of the most musically important West Coast records at the time was "Forever Changes" by Love. It still graces my both CD and turntable with regularity. Lee and McLean were quite extraordinary as a song-writing team, and unlike Lennon-MacCartney were wise enough to not overstay their welcome. Arthur and Brian gave me a signed presentation disc which adorns my office wall. HS PS - A taste of "Forever Changes" from 1967. http://youtube.com/watch?v=cLxlQKYISVM
