It's interesting for me to note on the subject of the "memorial" the following things:

    1. JW's accuse orthodox religions of beliefs such as real presence and transubstantiation. They claim the notion of invisible presence is foolish and irrational.

    2. JW's believe that Jesus is invisibly present.

I had not remembered the "turned his attention toward the earth" notion. I'll be sure to use that quote in the future! If the mere act of turning one's attention can be described as being present, then we may as well throw out language all together. Does absence mean "inattention?" This has great theological implications as well which cannot be avoided. It seems clear from this logic that God was not paying attention to the earth in the interim.

    Wow, thanks for that.

Is says that he is here invisibly, then it takes it back... or am I not reading it correctly ?

Actually, I think this is reflecting on the complex understanding what what "parousia" is versus "second coming." But regardless of that, since they apply the 7-times prophecy to 1914, for all intents and purposes, this is the "return" of Christ that should have ended the Lord's Supper.

It reminds me of the assemly in the summer of 1975, where there was all this super hype about how basically they were expecting Armageddon, and how they were tentatively now having to plan for some coventions next year, but only because you need to book these events far in advance. But all the "confidence" was there that this was it! You know how they have those final announcements at the end of the convention about what's coming up. Then they announced, in the meantime, that Bethel was buying new printing presses and going all out to expand the preaching work!!! In spite of expecting Armageddon any day now? I remember LAUGHING to myself and shaking my head and thinking -- somebody at Bethel isn't buying this 1975 B.S. and they are not taking any chances. Christ is not going to catch them slack of hand when he returns and they are going all-out and building more presses and expanding even more aggressively than before. They are not slowing down but speeding up!!! I knew that somewhere down the road, some of them were not buying their own beliefs. If Armageddon came that year, then great. But if not, they were going to be doing was commanded.

Some things are acknowledged, but not truly believed.

TECHNICALLY, it's a total JOKE, right? They were only supposed to attend the memorial until Christ returned. If Christ returned in 1914, then WHY are they still celebrating the remembrance of when he LEFT?

    ROFL!!!

I thought they were supposed to do the memorial until a new Messiah appeared from sleeping in a dumpster and proclaimed he was Jesus. I could be confusing my false prophets, not sure.

It will be the same old waste of the evening as it is every year. Hopefully, though, someone will come up with the latest version so that we will know for sure that we have the Official Apostate Memorial Talk on the video. And, everyone can partake as they see fit.

Didn't Christ have 12 apostles? Not 11 as the outline says?

12 minus Judas, that is. (of course the gospels differ on that)

    Thanks for your help everyone!

He did... but the WT claims that he left BEFORE the bread and wine, that way they can claim that only the anointed "good guys" can partake

How can the WT say Judas left before the institution of the Lord's evening meal when this is what Jesus said -

Matthew 26:23 Jesus replied, "The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me." Notice the present or past imperfect participle or whatever the heck that tense is called, namely, WHO HAS. So, if Judas dipped his hand into the bowl, who can say that he didn't in fact eat?

It never ceases to amaze me how the WT can definitely make statements with ZILCH to back them up...as if they were there 2000+ years ago. What chutzpah.
