I have almost the entire rainbow brite collection in mint condition - better then straight off hthe shelf. I also had Transformers, but the hubby took those when he left me. I have Popples, My Little Pony and Care Bears. Isn't toy collecting fun? Always makes me feel like a kid again. I get most of my things on e-bay. No time for thrift stores.

    I can't say I blame him...

That is, blame him for taking the Transformers, not leaving you.

If my wife throws me out, Optimus, Megs, and all the others are going with me if I have to hide them. Heh.

I have a ton of robotech/macross transforming jets. I don't get things off ebay as much cus its expensiver, but if you want it mint in box you gotta get it thru ebay definitley. Most of my toys i dont mind if they are played with and missing parts. So thrift stors it is, You can get entire bags of my little ponies for $1.50 They are missing accessories and some have marks on them, but hey its $1.50 :)

Thats cool you got all that stuff.

Here is an example of the kind of toys I like that don't transform, you can imagine how these look on the sehlf next to care bears and wuzzles.

I can't see any JWs in 'good standing' allowing their kids to see Harry Potter....but there will be those kids in the hall that do get to see it! This is likely to cause a fresh wave of judgementalism and theocratic reprisals.

however, you can be sure that more will be allowed to see HP than wouldve been allowed to see a similar movie even 10 years ago.

i emailed a girl I used to be friends with a few years back - a girl i saw "interview w/ the vampire" with and here is her response (closer, i'm sure you know this girl):

hmm.. well, i think x-files is demonic to a point, so i'm probly not a good
person to ask... my motto is "if in doubt, do without"

i'm not really into that harry potter stuff... but it does deal w/sorcery..
and we are supposed to have nothing to do w/that stuff.. right?

i'm not sure what lord of the rings is about, so i don't know about that...

i'm sick and tired of hearing things from uptight-short-sighted-narrow minded hypocritics. all i want is the truth just gimme some truth - John Lennon

I just have to say "Ditto" to Ranchette's comment.

When we were still JWs we thought Harry Potter was awful and dangerous for children and couldn't figure out why any parent would let their kids read those books!
My daughter was checking them out at the school library and reading them against our will. We were appalled and lectured her on the danger of demons!

Now we cant wait for the movie and don't mind her reading the books.

My daughter was borrowing the books from her friend and sneaking them up to her room because I wouldn't let her read/buy them!

This summer I bought her the fourth book and the three youngest and I have read them all!

Now, I'm hooked and can't wait for the movie's premier!

    No more worries about demons.
What a relief it is to be free of those silly superstitions!
I have to laugh at the JW's donating those books to the library instead of destroying them! Just last summer (of 2000) I tore up some books my eldest had that had occult content. Indoctrinated JW that I was, I went to great lengths to make sure that nobody would be able to piece the information together. I used public trash bins at various locations. (Not only saving my daughter from the demons but the trash collectors as well!!!) How whacko was that?!!!!

In my JW opinion, nothing less than destruction was called for...
I imagine your relatives couldn't bring themselves to disrespect Grandma that much. SIGH.

J.W.'s gonna see HP? Not the 'faithful' ones!

I remember the Society wrote something about "E.T" and some ouiji board scene making it difficult for JWs to see that openly when it came out.

These days in Canada, JWs watch whatever they want.

I think it's a series for "older" children and was originally intended for adults.

MrMoe, really? I hadn't heard that, and I'd be interested to know if that really was the case. Everything I've read indicated this was a children's book that adults began to read only after it became so popular.

The Hobbit, for instance, was deliberately written as a children's book, and it reads that way. The other Tolkien books are very much written for adults. I've not read any Potter books, mainly because I have no interest in children's books, so I can't say for sure.
