You tell me what I saw, if not Angels then what?

When you leave earth's atmosphere, the pull of earth no longer works.

The pull always works, it weakens with distance according to the inverse square rule.

Take a look sometime at the balls of liquid floating around the space shuttle and station. No gravity, but they stay in a ball.

There is a great deal of gravity there, the rapid orbital rotation of the shuttle exactly counteracts the inward pull of gravity. This is centrifugal force. Ever been on a rapidly rotating ride? Do you recall how your body is drawn outwards away from the center of rotation? The shuttle is orbiting the earth at tens of thousands of mph. The outward "pull" of the orbital spinning exactly counterbalances the inward pull of the Earth's gravity. The two exactly cancel out, so things float, as you noticed.

The stars we see are moving at (for us) incredible speeds. Many miles per second. They are so far, and the distances between them are so vast, that no change is noticed by a casual observer on Earth, even after centuries.

And this is based on your own in depth research I suppose? You should stop now. Really. People are laughing at you.

I'm not laughing at her. That is why we talk here, to learn from each other.

I am laughing at you, for being a jackass.

And the space shuttle is not pulled back to the earth by it's gravitational pull because of the distance from the earth. Distance does affect the way gravity behaves. I know there are centrifugal forces in effect. I am not saying there is no force holding the stars in order. I am saying the forces are so amazing that they defy logic. The distances between stars is unreal. We could never travel as mortal humans from one to the other with the current technology we have. When we look into the night sky, we see stars that do not exist any longer. That's how long it takes their light to get to earth, many thousands of years.

I do understand that some believe this is all accidental and there is no intelligent design or force behind it. And that's okay. I personally don't share that theory. I feel that our amazing material universe proves there has to be more than just us. I have seen something moved by an invisible, intelligent being. Angel? I don't know. Ghost? I don't know. Extra terrestial? I don't know. But there are five of us who saw it happen.

I believe the Universe developed according to natural laws. But I also believe it was not random or meaningless in its development, but developed with a purpose. The one with the purpose is God.

Perhaps a better question for Jeffro is where do the forces that hold stars in their places originate? I don't mean the direction or place, I mean, what put them in place in the first place? Scientists can only theorize. My dad is not a christian. He has beliefs that include his Native American heritage. He is an oceanographer. He believes in evolution. But he also believes in the Great Spirit and he believes in spirit creatures. To believe in angels doesn't mean one cannot embrace science. Then again a lot of science is based on hypothesis and theory.

This is one of those little 'trick questions' that 'believers' like to ask.

It's like when a UFO believer points at something in the sky and says to the unbeliever, "See that? Can you explain what it is?" The other guy says, "No, I don't know what it is. I can't explain it.", so the believer enthusiastically exclaims, "Hah! That proves it's aliens!"

Not knowing the answer does not validate an unprovable belief.

Yes, and I am sure that FlyingHighNow has many valuable things to teach. But physics obviously is not one of those things.

Middleman, I had a similar experience about 20 years ago, I was riding my motorcycle 35 mph down the street in front of the church of Scientology in downtown Clearwater. A car turned left in front of me, he said he didnt see me. I kept my bike upright and hit the car. At the time of impact I jumped up and landed on my feet about 25 feet down the road. Many Scientologist saw the accident and thought I was one of their leaders who reached clear and could fly. They told me I flew through the air and was set down on my feet. They took me into their headquarters after the accident. I was curious to see the inside of their headquarters, I dont know how many non scientologist get in there. Finnally I convinced them I had nothing to do with Scientology, I had not reached clear.

When my wife and I would go out to breakfast during the next year in downtown Clearwater several times Scientoligist came up to me and told my wife of my flying through the air as if I had magical powers.

At the time of the accident, I was going to an AA meeting and had reached a place of spiritual nirvana. I felt close to my higher power, who I called God. The cops and fireman told me whenever a bike gets wrecked like that the rider gets killed. I feel as some power lifted me up and set me down with a wooshing sound.

I was faced with my death, my options were to hit a telephone pole, which would have killed me, to put the bike down at 35 mph which would have scrapped my skin off and I most likely would have been killed hiting a car at 35 mph with my body. I jumped up at the point of impact. And I was told by 3 witnesses that I flew through the air like I knew magic and came down 25 feet down the road on my feet with out a scratch.

God, angels, spirits, atheism, I am still here and thats what happened and the story hasnt changed in 20 years.

I've told this story here before and have heard from the disbelivers, Thats ok. Be thankfull you havent had the experience. It kills more than it allows to ponder the meaning and significance of life and the universe.

If there is no God, if there are no angles or spirits. I hit a car broad side at 35 mph. And because I am in such good shape and such a great athelete which I was I jumped over the car and landed on my feet 25 feet down the road, the bike was totaled and I didnt have a scratch. Thats all true.

But I felt as if a force picked me up and set me down with a wooshing sound and thats what the witnesses told me and my wife.

Since my body realized this was a life and death situation when the car turned in front of me everything went into slow motion until I landed on my feet with a woosh. You can google the reality of near death experiences and slow motion. Thats the way it went for me real slow.

When I landed on my feet then everything went back to real time.

Today I battle with believing as an agnostic and atheist. When I reflect back to that incident my internal conflict is atheist 40 God 60, the bible 10 all out of 100.

I'd have to say if Evil Kenevil was riding my bike that day he would have had a few broken bones.

When I think of that experience, I think life is mysterious. It wasnt my time to die and something kept me alive.

I dont think I was kept alive to do anything great but I still have made an impact and effect on the big picture as everyone does and it wasnt my time to go then.

Or there is no mystery and I am great at jumping over cars off motorcycles at 35 mph. I wasted my life as a tool maker and detention officer. I should have been a stunt man.

Well the 'picked you up' part would have been you jumping, and the rest is inertia. The very lucky part would be landing on your feet. Can't say the story raises my opinions of scientology though.
