Whats the big deal, the man just wanted to play "his part in this world". Isn't participating in a meeting kinda like voting?

Get real. A council meeting for the public to air views on issues within their communities is hardly party politics. Don't look for hypocrisies where they don't exist, it just makes us look pathetic.

In the US that certainly would be considered being involved in the political process, in fact some call them 'activists'. The ones who publicly go up to the microphone and use their Constitutional right of Free Speech for the purpose of making your political view heard so it can be voted on at a later date by your county supervisor/school board/legistlator/etc... elected officials. It the man was truly neutral he would have no opinion and not care what the worldly people are doing or about to do as jah will make it all better at a later date.

Being that his participation cannot be directly connected with causing a death..........it becomes a "MOC".

Come on - Every citizen has a right to attend these meetings and voice their opinions about what is done with their tax money and there is NOTHING in JW teachings that disallows this.

Sorry - much ado about nothing.

Nicalou and Seeker, I completely disagree. Going to a council meeting is just "political" as voicing your opinion by voting. Politics is defined as: "the process by which groups make decisions." This man WAS getting involved in how his city makes decisions--through the use of an elected body which hears the input from fellow citizens. That's why it's so hard for JWs to be a-political; its nearly impossible. Everyone will get involved in politics at some point in their lives, whether it's disputing a property line, voicing your angst about the new school district board, the lack of affordable housing in your area, etc. Where do you draw the line? Such activites cannot fit how the Jws interpret the words to "be no part of the world."

I do not know if this is a U.S. v British thing, but i weigh in with Nicolau and the supporters of his action.

I was an elder when a plan was mooted to develop a plot near my house an build an ice rink and other things. We felt it was wrongly sited and would affect our area - so wife and I went to public meetings and spoke up .We had no conscience or need to be quiet about our actions. It was perfectly OK with the congo. Of course they lobby the Council for consent for a K Hall, as well.
