Here is where I stand or sit, or lay or crawl or sleep.

It is written somewhere that in the last days men would run to and froand knowledge would be increased.

The pendulum swings, from a position of non motion, through the lowest position of most energy and coasts through to non motion at the opposite side.

    Pro and Con

The concept of Theism has reached its summit.
And the swing towards Atheism has, is and will gain momentum.

I don’t know if any of you are familiar with the writings of Nikos Kazanzakis. He is the one who wrote Zorba the Greek and the Last Temptation of Christ. He also wrote a more mystical book of spiritual exercises called Saviours of God. In this book he portrays all the blood , sweat , tears, toil, strife, joys and troubles of history, as the struggle of God and Man, together, to raise mankind out of the muck and towards a spiritual upward flight towards figurative stars.

Now, the surprising end of his conception of god and man, at the end of his book, is: (quote caps incl)
AND THRICE BLESSED BE THOSE WHO BEAR ON THEIR SHOULDERS AND DO NOT BUCKLE UNDER THIS GREAT, SUBLIME, AND TERRIFYING SECRET:
    THAT EVEN THIS ONE
    DOES NOT EXIST!

jaguarbass: Faith is required in theism and atheism.
I mean if you really believe.
Agnostim is low energy, low stress, no faith, luke warm. That everyone wants to spit out.
The past month or so I am contemplating that reincarnation is the missing piece of the puzzle.
Regardless, I do not believe there are any concrete answers, its all faith.

If this post was not made in seriousness, the dryness of the humor has gone even over my head.

The above is another way of saying "I don't know, but because I desperately want to take a stand I'm going to act like I do know and criticize those who admit they don't know."

Agnosticism is "low energy"? How do you figure? The path of least resistance would be to conform to whatever belief predominates among your social group. It takes guts, and humility, to admit you don't know, especially after years of knocking on people's doors saying "you're wrong and I'm right."

Agnosticism is "low stress"? Belief systems are not low stress. People are low stress, or high stress, and that's all.

Agnosticism is "no faith"? If by "faith" you mean the 'unreasoning acceptance and internalization of conclusions lacking justifying evidence,' then you're right. But I don't see how that's a bad thing.

"That everyone wants to spit out." Well, that's true. Most people cannot take uncertainty for even a short time, they will transition hurriedly directly from one nonsensical belief to another... like a Catholic becoming a JW or a JW becoming born-again. The idea that "maybe I don't really know the plot of the universe" is anathema to most, especially those conditioned to believe from childhood that they somehow have a divine right to know the truth.

I don't see the discussion as pointless.

As a group of persons that were once dedicated to serving and promoting the God of the Hebrew Scriptures, the Father of the Christ(as understood by many sects and denominations of Christianity), I think that the realization that He is as lifeless as the deities mocked by the prophets of old is bound to be life-altering.

    Thanks for that info, belbab.

Well Nate, there goes your future as a politician!

If you were just black, female or gay that would be bad enough. But there's nothing more untrustworthy than an atheist. At least that's what the majority of Americans think.

Atheism is the complete lack of faith.

Not true!!! Atheism is Faith that there is no God, and that it's OK, one is not required.

Atheism is Faith that there is no God

Where did you find that definition, by grace?

Theist - Can you prove there is not a God?

That is the same trap that got Saddam Hussein hung by a noose when he failed to prove he didn't have any WMD's hidden in Iraq.

As I repeatedly said, "We can't understand women and yet we can understand God?" When Donald Trump says your history, your history.
