My question is, are JWs actually "normal" from a "worldly" standard or are they abnormal?
Religion long before the JW's came on the scene has been controlling peoples primal urges by fear, confession, dissfelloshiping via stoning and death etc.
The stronger will dominate the weaker.
Even if there strength is only in mental games.
Fortunately I never married a JW but I got engaged to one when I was 18 and that put me off JW men. It might have been a cultural thing too because this guy was a immigrant from Turkey. He was 28 and I was 18 and he was a prude and a virgin. We kissed and necked a few times and I know he got aroused and then he would shove me away and treat me like I had done something horrible to him. He made me feel dirty and guilty because he got aroused and then he would ignore me after. I was naive and didn't understand. I pushed harder and harder to get his attention and would look for opportunities to catch him off guard so I could try and seduce him. Well a couple of times he "popped" LOL and messed up his pants *giggle*. He was so mad at me and he said we couldn't kiss again until we got married. Then he got suspicious because I was so "H***y" and said I might not be a virgin. Well I was. He took me to the doctor to have him examine me and prove it. He also told me I couldn't wear pants and my skirts had to be at ankle level. That was it for me. I took off to Florida and sent his ring back in an envelope. I was really messed up then, and that didn't help. I felt like there was something wrong with me. Then I met a worldly man and that led to my demise with the JW religion.

Velvetann - I thought I was the only one that had this happen!! I too, was questioned alot about my virginity. It wasn't until he saw the "proof" on our wedding night that he was finally convinced. What, like women don't get aroused etc like men do? Geeze!

Velvet, I'm glad you got away from that man. He sounds unhealthy.
It was archaic but I think that was just bad luck for me to chose a Old Fashioned man from a country that views women as chattels. I didn't understand that as I had no experience with men. I am sure if I had gotten together with someone from our culture it might not have been so bad.
I jumped at him because i wanted to get away from my parents and by so doing I jumped from the frying pan into the fire. I met him at the London, Ontario District Assembly when I was 17. He thought my parents were awful because they wouldn't let me see him without them being in the room all the time. That was a story too which really put me off my parents. He drove, from Hamilton Ontario to Long Sault, Ontario to see me one weekend. My parents said he had to stay in a Hotel room and wouldn't let him bunk out on our couch. The only thing we did was go to the Sunday meeting and sit together but my Mom sat with us. He wanted to take me to a movie but my parents said NO unless they could come too but they didn't feel like it so we sat on my parents couch and talked with my Dad glaring at us. Then the clincher..........my Dad had to go Pee so he called my Mom in from the kitchen which was 15 feet away and said she had to sit in the livingroom and watch us until he got back. What did he think we would do, strip off our clothes and so the dirty while he was in the bathroom. It was so stupid. Anyway that drove me to leave home and move to Hamilton to be near this Jerk. Then I find out he is as uptight as my parents were. Geeeeeeeeeesh

Sounds like this guy may have had more of a cultural problem than a JW problem. Around Memphis in the late 70's this guy probably would have slipped a cog.
