Single? Do You Cook for Yourself?

    Dear Friends,

As I cook away, preparing a hearty breakfast before the robust walkabout that awaits me, I recall an earlier conversation with a married friend whose wife prepares him beautiful meals.

If you're a single person, it's typical to throw something together hastily and eat it on the run. Anyway, I told Sam that I take the time to cook a good meal and then to savor it - no more guilt over wasting time cooking because 'it's just me now.'

    Excuse me ... something's burning....

I do cook for myself. It is only me but I gotta eat. I enjoy it most of the time but, there I times when I wish I had someone to cook for me once in a while. I do sit in the dining room and enjoy my dinner meal semi-formal even alone. Never was one to sit in front of the TV or computer while eating.

I am not big on breakfast, usually just a buttered bagel, OJ and coffe. Lunch is usually leftovers from the previous night's dinner. I like to make big meals and freeze them so on days like today when the temps get so hot I do not have to put the stove on. Just pop something in the microwave an viola a home cooked meal.

    Sounds good to me, BFD!

Next time I'm on the east coast we'll have to do lunch ...

Thanks for your reply. Stay cool.

Off to take in the sights before the dew evaporates.

I wish I knew how to cook. Most of the time I eat cause I have to. I wait till the last minute when I'm starving and throw something real quick together and just chow down to get it over with. I'm conscious I have to eat right but just don't know what goes with what (spices, sauces ect) so when I try new stuff it's usually bland or doesn't taste all that good. I've learned a few things but not enough.

And then you've got to do the dishes...man. Feeding yourself is a full time job imo

    Hey Joebin,

You've got that right! If you're OK with the current m.o., then it's really no big deal. I used to be chief-cook-and-bottle-washer before I was single, so I know the ropes. But I tell you, I always jump at the chance to eat with others (especially when they're cooking).

Would it be worth your while to get some instruction - formal or informal?

    Thanks,

In my case, being single or married does not matter too much because I love cooking! I consider it a hobby. I love to try all kinds of recipes. Sometimes I succeed, sometimes I miss. Sometimes it is good, and sometimes it is not so good. But I always enjoy the process.

And just like BFD, I never eat in front of the TV or at the computer. I sit at the small kitchen table or the dining-room and enjoy my meal.

    Hi *summer*!

I just recently cleared my kitchen table of books and files so's to do the same. However, I still generally eat debout.

    As ilen tone:

I never thought of applying for a job, but, when I housesit, I typically clean house, reorganize kitchen and garage, and have a meal in the fridge for my clients when they return.

    I'm worth what I'm paid ... LOL!
