Gas Prices & Field Service

The reason given for combining the bookstudy with the TMS and Service Meeting was rising gas prices. Whether that was Society's true reason for the change or not, that was what the publishers were told.

If I were a publisher contemplating this coming weekend's field service activity and a near-empty gas tank, I simply would not go out.

Do you think there will be a corresponding reduction in the number of field service hours as gas prices increase?
Has anyone noticed a trend in the monthly reports published in the KM?
And the big question, do you think the GB will send another letter announcing changes to field service due to the hardship driving around in field service causes? (I know they probably won't do this, considering they like to keep the publishers occupied in busy work)

A lot of the pioneers I know work part time and live on a limited budget as it is. I wonder how much longer they will continue to fuel up and go knock on not at home doors/talk to people who couldn't care less.

It will be interesting how the driving arrangement will be suggested. Brother Budget ain't gonna like using up his spare gas on a bunch of free-loaders who don't wanna pitch in - even then, $1 each will do very little to help refill his tank. I imagine that volunteer drivers will be scarce, unless the congregations start dipping into their piggybanks to help out. I know if I was driving, I would stop at a gas station FIRST and say, "Okay, how far do you want me to drive today? Let's see that cash." and then let the good people decide on the importance of our field service. If noone has money to chip in, I'd drive back to the KH.

If the society argues "Well, the apostles worked for free." Not true! They found support in their travels by people who gave them food and shelter ... also, they didn't go house to house. They preached in open areas, market places and synagogues. They worked from ONE LOCATION until they travelled again to another town. I doubt going house to house asking for gas money from those who they "preach" to is going to work.

I see a big rise in counting internet based hours... spam mailings and such. Phone(y) work and letter writting are legit subistutions for shoe leather in the JW world.

I bet the cards close to the KH get hammered hard!

There will probably be less driving and more "lying" about service time.

If the pioneer work is so valuable each congregation should be able to allocate funds from contributions to the World Wide Work to local brothers and sisters who are out in the ministry.

That will never happen. The society is not willing to part with what they consider to be their money for an activity they consider worthless.

I agree with BreakingAway, less door to door and more lying on those reports.

I remember some pioneers who got caught "stretching" their time.

LOL @ Saco. Can you imagine?!?!? "I can offer you these magazines in return for contribution to my gas tank." Householder: "hell no I never wanted you to wake up on a saturday morning anyway"

Is it wise to get ME going on this subject today? I did bring up his stupid fs and dropping large amounts of $$ every damn weekend to haul these fruitcakes around in our vehicle! he claims they give him gas money, what?a whole dollar?! I'm tempted to get one of those old bumber stickers 'Ass, Gas, or Grass Nobody Rides Free' and laminating it on the back of one of the front seats so the whackos might get the hint. I know, I know, that would be expecting too much of them. damn freeloaders.
