I read Helter Skelter when I was about 11 years old. At the time, I had never read anything more frightening! I had gotten one of my older sister's books... I don't remember all the details about who did what; but I still have memories of some of the more grisly stuff!

Ms. McDucket, you are right about that book being beyond scary.

And, I think it should be more scary to JWs and EX-JWs than to just about anybody else on earth - with the possible exception of a Jim Jonestown survivor, or an Islamic suicide bomber who changed his mind. We have more to reason on about the unholy influence of cult leadership to convince us of their power of life & death than most anyone in America.

    Let us not forget.

Like Doris Tate (Sharon's mother) said society has been kind to Ms. Atkins by sparing her life (she was originally given the death penalty and should already be dead) which is a lot more consideration than she gave to Sharon Tate and her unborn child and others she was involved in killing. She never came out and apologized all these years to the victim's family and she lied over the years about what actually happened and that doesn't sound like a very remorseful person. The only way she should be let out of prison is if she is carried out in a pine box.

Read Helter Skelter by Vincent Bugliosi. Both movie adaptions didn't cover a lot of the other details that the book did.

No, she should not be released. What if the doctors are wrong? My son's teacher two years ago was told she had stage 4 cancer and would not live for more than six months. She is now cancer free!

It doesn't matter if she was stoned or high or out of her right mind when she committed those murders. She is still responsible for taking those lives and that unborn child that Sharon Tate begged for them to save. She should have been sentenced to death along with all the others of that cult, but instead was sentenced to life. So therefore, she should live out her last days in her cell.

Oh yeah, I read Helter Skelter also, frightening. But the DA was outstanding.

The randomness of the killings just made you think. Like Farkel said, they would pull up next to a car and discuss if they were going to murder the people.

The Tate family attends all the hearings for these guys.

Allowing her back into society serves no purpose. She has nothing to offer society in any form.

The sentence is life in prison, it means life in prison. How rediculous could anyone be, asking to be released because they are dying. WTF?

Karla baby is now living in the Carribean with her new husband and baby. Take one guess who footed the bill for this sick murderer to be living in a tropical paradise after

What???? I never heard that!! She has a baby?????? Good freaking god! She helped murder her own sister!...

As for Atkins - she bargained for life in prison instead of the death penalty. She herself stabbed to death a woman pleading for the life of her child - I don't believe that it's up to us to determine wether she gets out or not. I believe that those decisions should be voted on by the families of the victims she helped murder. If they say let her out then fine, if not - then she should stay. swife.

No. Would she be a risk to society? Was Manson a risk all those years ago? He did not do any of the actual killing but by using thought control & drugs he was able to accomplish what 'they wanted to do' as he says. He claims he did not order anything but merely told them they should do what they want. She laughed when Sharon was asking for mercy and told her she had no mercy for her or her unborn child. She laughed in the courtroom when recounting the killings. I'm sure she is a changed woman now, many years in prison will do that. Sharon Tate and all the others who lost their lives never got the chance to learn, grow and change. I'm sure she would like to spend her remaining days around family and say their goodbyes, those brutally murdered did not have that chance. We all pay in one way or another for our mistakes and crimes in our youth, why should she be an exception?

Keep her in prison. That's why prisons have infirmaries - to care for inmates who are sick. She was sentenced to life in prison, she needs to serve her entire sentence.

If the prison's infirmary is not adequately equipped to manage hospice or palliative care for her, then transfer her to a facility - as a prisoner - that can do the job. That's far more compassion than she ever extended to her victims.
