My wife is mixed race but she obviously looks like a woman of color. I'm Latino but darn that Irish ancestor, I'm really pale. Outside of L.A. we get looks. Especially on our trips to Vegas, and semi recently we had a confrontation and I had to call security in the casino.

Fortunately in L.A. people are really tolerant. I feel for those who living in the 60's, decided to date a sistah and endure the ridicule and harrasment.

Now for those who aren't in a racially mixed relationship but say religiously, I guess thats a struggle that most would miss on the surface.

    Welcome to the board.

If you just need a scripture for your grandmother, 1 Corinthians 7:39 says to marry only in the lord, so you have that covered.

I used this on my very bigoted family one time, when they were running their mouths. They didn't like it, but they didn't try to argue, either.

I have been studying the Jehova religion with my cousin. umm he is catholic.

Star, a JW and a Catholic is definitely a mixed marriage that won't work! Is he a Chaldean Catholic? If you wish to marry him, you should know that he and his family will expect all of your children to be raised Catholic and to celebrate holidays, all holy days, etc. If he is a good Catholic, marriage to a JW will be nothing but problems. I have yet to sufficiently read a justification from the bible that says that "mixed" marriages are wrong. You are free. You are free to love, free to interact with, make friends, make love not war with whomever you want, you DO NOT NEED TO ASK PERMISSION about it.

A god of love isn't looking at something as trivial as skin color, "cultural background" and everything other imperfect human BS that we have focused way too much on. A god of love is looking at hearts and individuals. So, taking that into consideration, you should know the answer.

ffs...if you've got to ask that you can't love the person...........real love doesn't ask for permission

Star, I think your grandma is refering to the scrip that says 'do not be unevenly yoked' The scrip is not talking about race but rather beliefs. If your faiths were worlds apart there may have been some complications, but just because he has a different culture should be no reason not to go out.

This question is insulting and ignorant.... its gotta be a troll.

Why does it have to be a troll? And pray do tell why you feel insulted? I'm sick of people judging others by 1 freaking post. Rather be one asking a question and look ignorant for a little while, than never ask and be ignorant forever.

Who said i was asking permission to date him?!? I was asking if the bible said it was okay! big effin difference here... like i said i wanted evidene to back myself up so that my grandma couldnt tell me that races shouldnt mix cuz she thought the bible said so... I didn't believe her, because I know Jehova god is loving, and fair, and kind, and he sees all humans equally. I told her that too.. I was like Grandma all humans are equal, and she was like yeah in God's eyes.. and i was like Duh!! isn't it god we are talking about, isn't that all that matters.. god created us equally and therefor i should be able to love whom i want to.. . and btw he isn't a strong catholic, he mainly considers himself to be christian... and thank you so much for explaining the yoke thing. thank you thank you for your support. another thing.. I am passed the whole mixed race question, I have my proof now, thanks to everyone who supported my question and didn't criticise me about it. The only problem now is his parents... sigh...

If your parents or grandmother try to be racist, ask them for their Biblical backing. If they can't find it (which they can't) ask them what other reasons thy have for being opposed. As racism is unjustifiable getting people with racist attitudes to explain why they are racist is a good solution. You have nothing to prove. They do, and they can't.

But please... believe in god in whatever way you like but do not confuse god with a man-made organisation. Jehovah's Witnesses are a cult, just like Moonies or Scientologists but more dangerous as many people don't think they are a cult because they try to dress-up the same kind of structure and organisation that make Moonie and Scientologists cults so it looks harmless and good.

    It isn't
