Sacramento has been blanketed with smoke for days now. Seeing smoke here isn't that uncommon...seeing it this many days in a row (4 or 5 now?) is unusual. There are hundreds of fires now in Central/Northern California, it's going to take a while to get them all under control.
Florida catches on fire pretty often. About 2 years ago they skys were gray from fires around Tampa.
Still, the world hasnt ended.
California burns every year....these fires are a bit early tho'
I heard a report last night that said that at least 8,000 lightning strikes were reported in one night... the Christian right will soon say that it's punishment for allowing gay marriage.
I live in Sacramento and own a business in the Fairfield/Vacaville area. It's horrible out here (and there) :). Had to reorder my asthma medication. The air is so thick with smoke and residual pollutants from the fires. They canceled my kids last day of school field day tomorrow, due to the air quality.
I wonder when California is going to just completely burn down. We have pretty bad fires here every year - so far this year pretty lucky but there hasn't been enough rain and everything is tinder dry.
I'm an hour north of Sacramento and I can say that if this continues much longer I'm going to have to get my dad out of here. He has the start of emphysema and he is not taking it well. The sun was so obscured by the smoke that you could look at it directly. It was like a red circle in a white background, very Japanese flag'ish. I refuse to go outside and I finally convinced him to keep the door closed and leave the air on. It is getting beyond unhealthy. The fires are less than two hundred miles away and it is oppressive. Be glad if you are in a clear area, its very very very very bad. I've never seen anything like this here before. W.Once

Please say it is not so Mastodon! 8,000? I tell you what, tonight it rained and my kids and my neighbors kids were out running like a wild pack of wolves around in it. They said they did not want to bath...so they were going to shower outside. WTH? So figuring they really were about to bath, I said OK as I let my girl hop about.
The best part was as I got my child and her friend who was coming to stay the night, the youngest shouted out, "This is the best time of our lives!"
Could the smoke have traveled all the way down to LA? This evening the sky was gray and dense, and the setting sun was a giant red ball, like it would be if the fires were local. Very strange.
Thinking of all of you up there...
