The new bulbs are a pain. I do not like the light for one thing. I have many accent lights that use small candleabra bulbs, so I can't use them on those, and I have most of my other lights on dimmers: bath, kitchen, bedrooms, outside lights, etc. and the new bulbs do not work with dimmers unless you get a special kind of CFL bulb that costs much more money. Then there is the big chunky plastic base that is not biodegradeable, and the toxic mercury on the inside. Like others, I will be stocking up on a lifetime supply of incandescents before they stop making them.

Then again, I will probably be dead by 2016, so I guess I won't have to worry about it...

You know I am a moderate and likely will not ever vote republican. But I don't think these lightbulbs are a good idea and I don't think they should be forced on us. When I was a kid, I used to be a dancer. And we had a dressing room at our studio. One of the baton twirlers threw her baton up and broke some of the long florescent bulbs. The glass came showering down all over us and our shoes, etc. Many of us were in our stocking feet. The adults ran in and screamed, "Don't move!!" We had to stay where we were while they made sure each of us had shoes to put on that were not filled with mercury coated glass shards. The room was not big and so of course we breathed in the gas from the bulbs.

What is worse, Six, gas hog bulbs that you can safely throw away, or filling our enviroment full of mercury? Think of the children who will be poisoned by these bulbs. And adults. Think of the adults.

Some energy solutions make sense. This one does not. And they are all made in China. Think about it. Who is getting kickbacks from China? And don't go blaming the democrats either. Right now they don't have enough seats to control anything.

Tell me how it makes sense to buy all these poisonous light bulbs from China, Six. Did you read the warnings on the bulbs? Did you think about the fact that they can cause migraines in some people and depression on others? Do you think people are really going to get in their cars and drive to a toxic waste dump to dispose of these bulbs? Think of all the mercury in the environment that will result from the improper disposal of the bulbs. And think of the children and adults who will get mercury poisoning when the bulbs fall on the floor and break. I mean no disrespect to you, but I will ask you your own question: have you done research on this?
