I apologize if this has already been posted- Thought it was interesting and makes me wonder.

Dr Edgar Mitchell, said he was aware of several UFO visits during his career, but each one had been covered up.

The 77-year-old, who was a crew member of the Apollo 14 mission, said sources at the space agency had described aliens as resembling "little people who look strange to us".

Dr Mitchell told Kerrang! Radio that human technology was "not nearly as sophisticated" as theirs and had they been hostile, he warned: "We would be been gone by now".

He said: "There's not much question at all that there's life throughout the universe, we are not alone at all. I'm most assured about that.

"Have we been able to identify where the other planets are? No, certainly not in our Solar System but we have been able to identify quite a number of planets that could be life bearing planets.

"I happen to have been privileged enough to be in on the fact that we've been visited on this planet and the UFO phenomena is real.

"It's been well covered up by all our governments for the last 60 years or so, but slowly it's leaked out and some of us have been privileged to have been briefed on some of it.

"I've been in military and intelligence circles, who know that beneath the surface of what has been public knowledge, yes – we have been visited.

"Reading the papers recently, it's been happening quite a bit."

Dr Mitchell, along with Apollo 14 Commander Alan Shepard, still holds the record for the longest ever moonwalking session at nine hours and 17 minutes following their 1971 mission.

Officials from NASA, were quick to play the comments down.

In a statement, a spokesman said: "NASA does not track UFOs. NASA is not involved in any sort of cover up about alien life on this planet or anywhere in the universe.

"Dr Mitchell is a great American, but we do not share his opinions on this issue."

I think intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe.

Has it ever visited this planet? So far, I'm not convinced. But if it has, I would think NASA would be the last group that would cover it up.

Out of curiosity, why do you think NASA would be the last group to cover it up.
I tend to agree with your opinion on intelligent life. Sometimes with all the conspiracies it makes me wonder. There's so many people who claim to have had encounters. I never have personally nor do I know anyone who has. Sometimes I think some claims seem like they come from the mind of a deluded, insane person but other experiences I've seen/watched I can't say; the person seemed completely normal (whatever normal is). Being someone who is interested in space and science fiction I have to say it's very interesting to me. I just wonder what others think of Dr. Edgar Mitchells claim.

Do you really think the government could "cover up" such a thing since the 1950s? Really?

    And for what reason???

    The GB are all aliens!!!

Oh wait, Mitchell said the aliens were MORE intelligent than us...nevermind. :P

Seriously, though, I'd like to believe there is life elsewhere and that they have even visited us. I definitely think it's possible and have no problem believing that NASA would cover it up, if not for themselves then with bribing from the government. I'm weird like that, though. :D

This isn't about my opinion, and for the record- no I never said I believe they covered or haven't covered anything up. I'm just interested in what your opinion is and what you think..

It's an exciting possibility to think about - I'm just not convinced.

The problem with alien visitation stories is that Einstein's laws of physics do not allow for an object to move faster than the speed of light. Infinite energy would be required to propel an object to the speed of light. It just simply isn't possible unless a civilization somehow learns how to defy the laws of physics. Even if we could travel the speed of light, it would take us over four years to reach the nearest star, 100,000 years to travel the length of our own Milky Way galaxy, and 2.5 million years to reach the nearest galaxy. It just simply isn't possible.

Now, of course, people will say that alien civilizations would have gotten past these problems and so forth, but if those civilizations have reached that level of advancement, why haven't we heard from them yet? It just doesn't make sense. For the record, I think that there could be intelligent life our there in the universe, but I doubt the laws of physics would allow for us to communicate with, much less visit with, intelligent life outside of our own solar system.

Well I was thinking in terms of the military agencies that would be involved, Area 51 and all that. NASA, at least my poor understanding, is more about exploration (at least in the 60's and early 70's) and now busing satellites into orbit. I just find it hard to believe that they would have any information first, and second, that they would have the will and means to conceal it. Especially for 40 years. Having said that, wasn't there another astronaut that claimed some sort of UFO experience?

I would think if one of the Apollo missions had encountered aliens, the story would have outed rather quickly. But that's just my expectation and opinion. As I say, I'm not convinced by the UFO stories. Some are kind of intriguing and it's possible we have been visited, it's just I would expect if spacecraft did visit we would have more proof than blurry video and stories of anal probing.
