mel blanc's "that's all folks"
edgar allen poe's 'Quoth the raven "Nevermore" '
Simonides wrote the famous lines about
the Spartan rearguard under Leonidas
who held the pass of Thermopylae
against the Persians in 480 BC.
One translation of Simonides' epitaph runs thus:-
Tell it in Sparta, thou that passes by
Here, faithful to her charge, her soldiers lie
no one in my family will consider
anything but cremation so there will
not be a "final resting place" for me
but i had once upon a time decided on an epitaph.....
"If you have come here to mourn,
you did not know me very well."
