Ecclesiastes 10:20 equates to Sattelites?

Hi all, I get a weekly newsletter from Jack and Rexella Van Impe. http://www.jvim.com/newsletter In the last one I got the folllowing idea on how the a bird is being compared to a satellite. It makes sense to me. I wonder what you all think.

    [quote]

Ecclesiastes 10:20 says, For a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.

Did you know that, in the TV communications industry, the slang term for an orbiting communications satellite is... a bird! "We'll beam this up to "the bird,'" they say, "and let it relay the signal to the other side of the world!"

So the words of Solomon have become another fulfilled prophecy! For today a "bird" does indeed carry the voice of the gospel, and "that which hath wings" is proclaiming the matter of God's Word to the ends of the earth.

What an exciting day in which to be alive! And what a thrill it is for Jack and me to be partners with you in helping to carry out Christ's Great Commission to evangelize our world in this generation.

    [end quote]

I was thinking of using this idea in my next conversation with some JWs and how they lack this sattelite feed to the world and how knocking on doors when no one is home is not as effective as sattelite radio and tv at reaching more people. What do you think???

Well, if I really have to be more explicit: just have a look at the context to see if it is about any kind of "gospel," and if possible, step a little further back to wonder if the book of Ecclesiastes is a likely place to look for "prophecies" about future technological developments, to begin with...

I still find it amazing that claimed belief in the Bible as "the Word of God" practically works as a blanket authorisation to use its texts with less respect (not to mention common sense) than people would have in reading Sunday tabloids.

That's really a dubious connection. Satellites don't have "wings," and there is no "air" where they orbit, so they really can't be "birds of the air" can they? There is nothing to indicate that Solomon had something other than a literal "bird" in mind. This is a result of people so desperate to believe the Bible, there's no limit to what they'll come up with. It doesn't make sense at all, it's just wishful thinking.

    May you have peace!

As someone else said, you're not looking at this in its proper context. The point of the verse is that if you call down evil upon anyone "superior" to you, even someone "bad," you risk it getting back to them... to your own detriment. Even if you think you're doing so in private. Indeed, you may even believe you're only revealing it to a true confidant (i.e., spouse, lover, etc.), but for some things in this world, there really is no privacy at all. Why? Because there are those existing who would rather see you come to your end... as opposed to a bad superior being brought low... and so will make sure that he comes to know of it. They are called "demons"... or bad spirit beings. "Flying creatures"... "owning wings." And they will seek to bring you down... versus bringing down a bad superior... because such superior serves their interests (i.e., waging war with the Woman's seed)... which seed you may be a part of. They don't know... and they don't care - if there's even a possibility (i.e., you are seeking, asking, knocking... in any way), you will be a target.

The reason Mr. Van Impe... and others, including, possibly, you... mistake the word to mean a "bird" is because certain Bible versions use the wrong transliteration of the Hebrew word `owph, which means "flying creatures," "fowl," "insects," OR "birds." Because those who claim to know lean on their own understanding, they don't understand that there are flying creatures that are NOT fowl, insects or birds. Instead, they assume[d] that it was only one of these, because those are the only "flying creatures" they are aware of. And they assume it is a bird because, unlike insects and fowl, birds were often used to send communications (i.e., carrier pigeons, etc.)

But the word was NOT intended to denote a bird, but a flying "creature"... literally... which is what spiriti beings are. They are seraphs, all of them, good OR bad: fiery, flying, flesh-eating creatures (saraph).

Most "scholars" do not know/understand this, however, because most do not discern the spirit realm but only those things that of this realm (i.e., the physical universe). And that is the problem with many who put their faith in "the Bible": rather than following the Holy Spirit, Christ, and letting HIM teach them ALL things... they walk by sight, interpreting what is written according to the knowledge of the FLESH... instead of interpretating what is written using the knowledge of the SPIRIT (which requires faith).

I bid you... take care: we have but ONE Master and ONE Leader and ONE Teacher, Christ. There is no other and when we allow ourselves to be led along by the teachings and propoganda of others, we once again risk be led... away from God.

I bid you peace... and ears to hear the Spirit, if you so wish it.

    A slave of Christ,

    SA

Tired if you want to journey down that road, check out "Chariots of the Gods" by Erich Von Daniken. After that you might want check out Zechariah Sitchin.

According to these 2 men, they suggest that the biblical Gods are extra- terrestrials.

They come to these conclusions by their interpretations of hyrogliphics, ancient picture writing.

VonDaniken suggest that when the Isralites were moving the ark of the covenant and it started to fall and Uzzah grabbed it and was killed, he was killed because the arc was an electrified radio through which the Gods would talk to and lead the Israelites.

Sitchin suggest that the Gods are from the planet X, also known as Nibiru. This planet according to Sitchin oribts the earth something like every 6,000 years the last time being around the begining of mans history on earth post Atlantis or the same time as the Flood of Noah.

Sitchin gets his data from interpreting the hyrogliphics, picture writings of the ancient Sumerrians the oldest civilization known to man.

Sitchin claims the reason modern man does not know of or acknowledge planet x, Nibiru is because it is on an Elongated orbit passing earth every 6 or so thousand years.

When planet X passes it is much larger than earth and Nibirus gravitational pull causes the earth to have a magnetic pole shift and start spinning the opposite direction on its axis.

This is Catastrophic to earth, destroying everything but the cockroaches and Keith Richards.

This is what happened to Atlantis. Plato told of Atlantis.

When planet X comes near the alein beings, Gods, Nibirians send their craft to earth and make arrangements to save earths seed. The ark. The story of the Ark.

The Nibirians at some point also mine earth for its gold which they need and dont have on Nibiru.

Also the return of Nibiru coincides with the Mayan calander running out in 2012.

Thats it in a nut shell.

At least this story has a date just like the Jw's Armegedon and 1975.

I cant say I believe it. But I have a curiosity of many things and a curiosity of where man came from and where he is going and this is an explanation that is out there and researchable.

It's not going to cause me to live my life any different.
