I'd love to see it stay open, but perhaps with a button for mods to push to limit us addicts, so we don't spend too much time here.

I think I may be done as well. I've posted on the other new boards (JWS, JWR), but increasingly it feels like my place among apostate-internet land is fading. I just don't dig it as much anymore. Once you've recieved the needed support and given it back, there's little point anymore. I don't want to spend my life on the internet.

anyone else has suggested this (I've been away from the Board), and if so, please disregard... but perhaps Simon and Angharad would consider letting the participants decide what can/cannot/should/should not be posted. A poll could be taken as to what folks definitely want to see.. and definitely do not want to see... using something like Survey Monkey, or even some kind of survey set up on the Board.
Only those members who've been active in the past year... or, if inactive for more than a year, have posted in excess of, say, 5,000 posts... would be able to participate (this number can be tweaked, of course - I'm just thinking that someone who posted once, six years ago, probably shouldn't be included, and some of us, including me, have more than one account which have only a few posts connected to them, and so shouldn't be able to take the survey more than once...).
Everyone would get one shot at the survey, which would include, say, 15-20 specific questions designed to flesh out (no pun intended) what should stay and what should go, how many "strikes" before someone is "suspended," how many before they are barred (or whathaveyou), based on what Board participants want.
The survey could be compiled by a committee, which committee would also make the final determination as to what should stay and what should go, etc., based on an analysis of the survey. The committee can consist of, say, 5-7 participants, including (1) Simon and (2) Angharad, of course; as well as, perhaps, (3) a well-respected moderator; (4) a non-moderator with, say, five plus years of tenure; and (5) a "newbie," forming the core group. If seven are chosen, then the group can include (6) someone with, say, 10,000+ posts (again, a tweakable number), and (7) a "wildcard" pick (someone the majority thinks in general would be beneficial to the process).
The committee can be chosen by ballot: anyone fitting into any category (3 through 7) can be nominated... or nominate themselves... and include a brief blurb (say, no more than 50 well-chosen and well-intended words) as to why that person should be on the committee. The remainder of the Board participants could be given, say, a couple weeks to review each blurb and decide who to vote for in a kind of "primary."
Then, the period to vote for nominations can be opened for a very brief period, say, 1-2 hours, during which primary nominations are made for each category. One vote per category, per member. Thereafter, the three individuals with the most nominations move on to a run-off, to be held a week later, with the one getting the most votes (again, one vote per member) winning a seat on the committee.
Once the committee is established, they would review the results of the survey and between them come up with what goes, what doesn't, who can stay (if they "behave") and who can't (if they don't). Then... they can create a kind of "license agreement" (like all the other self-respecting websites have) whereby members must "agree to the terms" or risk revocation of the "license"... and removal from the Board.
I know it sounds complicated, but I don't think it really is. And I'm not saying that this is the best method: I well-recognize that I'm not the brightest crayon in the box, and that there's probably some much brighter "highlighters" and maybe even some "Sharpies" out there who can come up with something better. This is only a suggestion, but one I offer with the best of intentions and in an effort to keep the forum going, if that's possible... while providing Simon and Angharad with additional assistance at being the "bad guys" (i.e., if "the people" decide what stays and what goes, then those who disregard and disrespect the Board will have no one to blame but themselves... and maybe "the people"... but not solely Simon and Angharad).
I know some will be concerned that what they want to say or see will be restricted. And I get that, as I should probably be among them: indeed, it might well be decided that what I am permitted by my Lord to post is not "wanted." Okay. If that ends up being the case, so be it: as PurpleSofa wrote I, too, am a guest here... and so subject to the "house rules." I have always known that, hence, the name "AGuest" (which I brought with from H2O, and was given me by my Lord when I asked how I should identify myself to Israel. Psalm 15:1). If it is decided that it is in fact time for me to move on, I have absolutely no worries: I follow the Lamb wherever HE goes; I am not tied to a cyber forum.
Anyway, again, it's just a suggestion.
I bid you all peace.

my first inclination was to ask, why not pray on it? But I knew how that would go over... of course.
Peace.

(and peace to you, dear one!) and will be, I guess, until, well, either my Lord specifically directs me to leave... or, to coin a phrase, the "fat lady sings." Thus, far, I've received no particular direction as leaving... or warming up the old vocal chords... sooooooo my position is that "it ain't over... 'til it's over"...
Again, much peace and GREAT love to you!
Your servant and a slave of Christ,
