Hi BJ welcome to the forum and as a answer to your question why it started
It started out as power and money getting venture by some unscrupulous men
who through their marketing savvy and manipulation created a kingdom of their own and who sat on throne
wheeling the power of God at their disposal.
You might consider it a religious scam that unfortunately worked

Hi Billie Jean,
I can relate to everything you have said. I was also raised from birth as a JW. I can't say that I never believed a word of it. I did. My parents told me it was the truth. All of my mother's relatives were believers. Many of our family friends were JWs. It wasn't until I got to high school that I knew it was all a pack of lies and I had been deceived by many people in my life. My parents left after I did. Although they never discussed with me anything about their decision to become JWs or raise their children as JWs or even their decision to leave the religion. My mother died in May and it was one of many taboo subjects with her. She was very defensive whenever the subject was asked about.
I understand completely your rant and I'm right there with you. And I'm older than you and I've been out since I was a teenager. I have been so happy to find this forum. So many of us have so much in common.

Welcome! I felt the same. Daydreamed through the whole meeting. Never believed a word of it. It just never felt right in the first place.

I was born and raised in it also. Dunked when I was 13 - Full time Pioneer for 1 year - 10 years fading out - now I am out for a full year - skipped my first Memorial this year.

I remember feeling the same way at times, that everyone would turn around and say "This isn't real, we just kept feeding you more and more bs to see if you would believe it." Well, they never came out and said it, but I got the drift.

Hi and Welcome Billie Jean!
Nice to have you with us.Unlike you I did buy into. I was raised in and dunked as a teenager. I so wish I'd had the benefit of the internet when I was young. I've always like researching and investigating things but was limited on the books at the time at my disposal.
So long story short was hard to argue or disprove everything I was learning about the "truth" and anything that was critical about it was just some lie or twisted words that apostates were using to discredit or make God's "earthly organization" look bad (or so I was led to believe).
Anyhow look forward to hearing more from you.
