I hadn't heard the "wearing a hat is bad manners" but we live in the Manchester slums where people can't afford hats anyway.

I know you should avoid anyone who wears a hat, especially a trilby, while they are driving as it indicates that they are at least 70, passed their test when there were only 3 other cars in britain (and a man walked in front waving a flag) and liable to crash at any second.
