Need advice - I think the elders in my old hall know we're inactive

In March this year, we decided to move to another hall and eventually fade. We ended up making one meeting and just dropped out. We haven't had any problem since and our friends in the old hall do not know we are inactive, they think we still go to meetings.

We moved for various reasons but both of us were unhappy with what was going on in the congregation. When the elders heard a rumor that we might be leaving, one of them called me to confirm it "so he could get a letter of introduction written right away." These elders ignored me at the hall, never phoned me when I missed dozens of meetings and when they hear I might be moving to another hall they call to get me off their books. Whether our report cards were sent I don't know.

Anyway, several months go by. We attended one meeting at our new congregation and never went back. We are completely inactive now and since then have not heard from anyone in our old hall except for seeing them in the supermarket.

Last week I get a call from an elder in my old hall. He asks, "have you settled anywhere yet? If you want to come back and give us another chance you're welcome to do so."

I politely thanked him and ended the call. He does not know we are inactive but asking us if we have settled anywhere yet was worrying. We still live in the old congregation's territory. No one from the old hall knows we're inactive and we both have friends there.

I'm wondering if he has called the congregation we were supposed to be moving to and enquired whether Brother Truthseeker was attending.

When you move to another hall, does the new congregation ask the old one for your report cards, or are they sent automatically when you inform the elders where you're moving to?

    Any advice is appreciated.

Don't worry about it. You're faded, not going to meetings. Just face it. You're done. Why do you care who knows?

    MissingLink,

We both have family in the truth and they don't know we're inactive. If they found out it would be the beginning of much unpleasantness.

They're going to find out eventually. Save yourself some stress, and be an adult and stop the double-life. You're the one in the right.

Elders™ are so transparent. You can see through their patronizing bull$h!t and that is an excellent position for you to be in.

It's been over six months since you changed congregations and he's checking up on you. It sounds as though the Circuit Overseer™ is about to visit and he needs to get his records sorted out before the CO inspects them. He probably did not receive a request to transfer your Publisher Record Cards™ from the new congregation and needs to decide whether to designate you as Inactive™ or not.

We had a grand total of ONE such phone call when we changed congregations/circuits. Like you, we politely thanked them for checking up on us and terminated the call quickly. They never called again.

    Thanks Scully,

Hopefully this phone call is the last phone call.

MissingLink, it's not the right time to be burning bridges right now, maybe in the future as you say, but not right now. It's not like cancelling a gym membership, these are real people, family.

Truthseeker, what normally happens is, you get the address of the secretary in the new hall and give it to the secretary of your old hall. Then they send the cards along with "a letter of introduction" basically telling the new hall your status, how you were "used" and if there are any problems. All of course to help them serve you better!

Just wait until after they study the washtowel about rounding up inactive people. I believe they are going to study that washtowel during the first 2 weeks of January. After that, I would expect a tidal wave of phone calls from the hounders about it.
