Fear of what might happen to them if they stop believing,

Fear of losing a personal redeemer, which some JWS and not particularly the good ones, cherish

They are being prodigiously indoctrinated that this is the one and only true religion on earth, so even when they screwed up or misinterpret they

still get the check mark above all religions, a falsity that many of us are well aware of now .

Because they want it to be true, and will make any excuse they can that will enable them to keep believing it is.

They will deny it, but any member of that religion has made a huge emotional investment in the faith. Many of their own hopes and dreams are tied to it being "the truth". Dreams don't die easy.

Cognitive Dissonance is SPOT ON - simply put, having a belief system that doesn''t jibe with reality.

If they admit it is not the truth, the whole foundation of their world is shattered,. It is too sad for words.
