  I don't think you need to appologize for any disagreements or misunderstandings. If you believe in a Creator and have faith, that is up to you and that should be a private matter. If others don't have it, it is probably not a good idea to debate them, because your belief can't be proved. However, it is your right to have it, if you choose. People will accept that, but we don't take kindly to debate of the type that Elke began, which started with ridicule and condescension.

  Let me tell you a story. I have a good friend who was on the faculty of a college where I taught before I retired. We came to the school at about the same time, both with a PhD and previous experience. After he began teaching there in 1986, he went on and got a master's in theology and created the position at the college of chaplain and ombudsman. Once I asked him about belief in God. He said that either you have faith or you don't. He did not engage in debate or try to change my ideas or proseletize. I was impressed by his perspective. We are very good friends even though we have very different beliefs. I think that is a good example of an approach to take.
