LWT
Confronted with a life or death blood issue, a JW may choose death, and yet this doesn't open their eyes, or open the eyes of their loved ones, in many cases. A GB member casting a single vote in a weekly meeting is not necessarily going to awaken him. He sits down at that table, not even comprehending (as Ray says) that he IS the organization. He just sits down and fulfills a role that dozens of others before him did, with no problem.
I suppose most criminals justify what they do, even most murderers believe they are justified while in a rage of anger or seeking revenge, but we still hold people responsible for their actions.
Are you saying that the first time they stop to take a vote, they don't know, deep down, something is wrong here? If they really believed this is how God runs his kingdom, shouldn't they fear being on the losing side (opposing God)? Doesn't the winning side well up with pride (sin) because God is on their side. Maybe Ray should expect a little more of them. He admits he had a conscience before he made the brake.
Sorry, but, I'm not convinced that they don't know at some level, delusion and self-deception aside.
Fear is another wildcard in this, when enough fear is brought to bare on a person, they will most often fall to the pressure and still do what they know is wrong.
Anyone think that a sort of gang, mentality plays into this discussion?
