I remember arguing with a bethel elder friend of mine during a long ride to an assembly about the"new light" in 1995....that the generation of 1914 is NOT the "this generation" that Jesus referred to:

Yep....pretty damm simple to me for 45 years...the generation that sees all the "signs" will not die before armageddon....thus we honest hearted ones pleaded with our Back Calls, or Return Visits to study with us before it is too late!....the time is soooo short, cause these 1914 folk are gettin damm old!....hurry in and be saved!

I asked a DF dub trying to get back in the other day that if he was going back in service....what the heck would he tell people at the door as to where we are in the stream of time....where are we in gods plan of things? he did not seem to realize how strongly we have disconnected "the END's" arrival from 1914 or any other date....so i reminded him that we had...and that, oh yeah...we have opened up heaven again so we will never run out of the anointed!.....how conveeeeeenient.......

damm me damm me damm me for not taking a strong stand in 1995....i saw the bullship.....and just floated along for another 10 years....how could such a HUGE change not have made more walk away or wake up?.....it definitely helped me wake up, because i started doubting way more things after that fiasco..................oompa

I guess I already had the 1995 generation belief and was "waiting" for the WTS to catch up to me. But it did bother me how many jws did not realize that anything had changed or could explain it. It took me another 6 years to process it.

It only took me about 5 minutes to process it before I realized we had been duped.

It's difficult to explain the stranglehold that WTS had on me, but I recognized
the problem in 1995. When I studied with a JW, he virtually beat it into my
head that the 1914 generation was old and the end was imminent. When the
change came, I thought it was a big deal.

I was a fairly new elder. The other elders didn't see the big deal when I talked
to many of them. It was covered in a couple of paragraphs during the WT Study
as if it were just ordinary questions. They moved on and that was it.

Even though I didn't walk away, I changed my life from that time forward. I did
secretly study doctrine at the library. I started looking for a career so I could
have a decent retirement "in this sytem." I no longer prevented my JW wife from
getting a college education. Eventually, I woke up and left. It was primarily due
to the 1995 change. Had I stayed, the 2008 change of the same doctrine would
have pushed me out.

I had been expecting a disconnect between 1914 and "this generation" for several years prior to 1995, so when it happened I wasn't surprised. What did surprise me was how all the Witnesses I knew simply took it in stride. Just more "food at the proper time"...

The 1914 generation teaching had been so core to the belief system, I had expected that even diehard dubs would be shocked awake by this change. I remember chuckling as I read the magazine thinking that the WTS had really shot themselves in the foot this time.

The fact that there was no mass exodus demonstrates just how powerful the mind control of this religion is.

At the time of the change, I reminded any JW who would listen that they had carried the FALSE "1914 generation" teaching to people as GOD'S PROMISE and GOD'S PROPHETIC WORD:

"Jehovah's prophetic word through Jesus Christ is: 'This generation [of 1914] will by no means pass away until all things occur.' (Luke 21:32) And Jehovah, who is the source of inspired and unfailing prophecy, will bring about the fulfillment." --WT, 5/15/1984, p 6-7 (note: "[of 1914]" is in the original).
"Most important, this magazine builds confidence in the Creator's promise of a peaceful and secure new world before the generation that saw the events of 1914 passes away." --Awake! 1/1/1995, p 2.

The WTS had effectively made liars of Jehovah and every JW knew it. The fact that this does not bother the Witnesses is proof conclusive that their loyalty is to the WATCHTOWER SOCIETY and not to God.

Dear Oompah,

I can top you in the blind fool department, I was "born in" (1950) and when I was about 11(1961-ish) I asked my old man about the change in doctrine that had gone on before then and where the Holy Spirit came into this,was it fooling about?

His answer must have satisfied me enough,I didn't walk away fully until this year!!!!

I think he said stuff along the lines of they have got most of it right etc. etc.

I never did go along with the wild stuff about Cedar point Ohio etc,but thought they would adjust it.

What a mind controlled Dumbass I was,even if not all my mind was duped, I still wasted my life and talents (Oh Bugger)

Because for any concern/doubt/issue, you are conditoned to repress it, and just trust in Jehovah, look at whole truth, etc... So something like you describe you can rather easily sweet under the rug because you have 'The Truth'.

Problem is when you realize that every major doctrine has holes, and then you hit the breaking point.

Oompa..The same thing happened after 1975..1975 came and went..Some left,most stayed.......The Generation change will just be a Blip in WBT$ History..Another 10years and no one will ever remember "The generation of 1914 will not pass away"..That was from the old days,the WBT$ got New Light..Jehovah`s Witness`s have a better understanding now..Further proof the WBT$ is God`s organization!..LOL!!.................
