Having never been a JW and looking into it from the outside, it would not be hard to throw stones, but I live in a glass house when it comes to the mind control aspect of things.

The JWs do an amazing job of getting the folks to trust in the F&DS, without them realizing what the slave really is. To my wife I think they sensed I knew a lot about the past, so they got her to see how wonderful it is that the spirit directed organization is willing to change, when many other faiths have held on to incorrect doctrine and practices (though never giving any examples - isn't this called a red herring).

I have asked my wife if she knew what happened in 1975 and of course she doesn't, and when I try to ask her about it she all but refuses to listen....did the information come from the official site......I need to get her to get a WTS CD, cause then she could find some of the information on it herself, even though the Awake part does not go back into the 1960s, where a lot of the really strange stuff about education was stated with respect to so close to the end.

What surprises me is then the generation change came in the mid 1990s, the turn of the century came with no end, then the next change in generation to tie it to the anointed, and now the change in the closing date for the anointed.

The amazing part about this, is they have managed through very poorly used smoke and mirrors completly disassociate the coming of armageddon from 1914......as long as folks can 'become anointed' the end can still be off in the future......I am going to be very interested to see what the anointed ends up being this year, I would venture to guess they WTS already has a number in mind for damage control purposes.....

1995? Hell, my mom still doesn't think the change EVER happened! She was going off at me a few weeks about how the economy is almost dead and therefore Armageddon would be imminent, and 1914 generation dying out clinches. She is STILL in denial 13+ years later!

I think this is common, the woman my wife had studied with is the wife of the PO (now been passed to the daughter, better fits the schedule ie, she comes when spiritual opposer is not home) did not seem to know this or the calling of the anointed, and the Reasoning book still has the old information in the Last Days area.

Yeah Outlaw's got it right. This was almost exactly the same thing as 1975. Some left but most stayed. Inertia is easier than actively taking a stand. This is why there will always be Jehovah's Witnesses.

I was already out several years when this happened. I remember wanted to run into a KH and yell "wake up and smell the coffee!" It seems that few did. But I can't say much, I let the 1975 thing go by for 10 years before I really started questioning. My wife grew up as a main stream Christian and it took her several years to get the Jesus is not your mediator thing into her head.

As pointed out, the WTBS is very good at getting the R&F to swallow what ever they are spoon fed.

I think it illustrated the fact that for many, many JWs all the Societys 'spiritual food', books and magazines are just background noise that they pay no attention to. This was a bombshell going off under their chairs and they didn't even blink.

ROFLMAO!...that does crack me up....i get sooo tired of having to educate my old dub friends who have no clue what is currently being taught!!!...two years or so ago when i was at meetings i was doing the same thing!...twice got pulled in the back room for making comments the elders thought were wrong AND EVEN CORRECTED DURING THE MEETING!...only to look stupid when i showed them the recent article with "new light" that they had missed! of course they never retracted their improper corrections of my comments.

i remember tell in some dubs how field service will be so much easier now that the heavenly calling is still going on....first had to show them the new light...and they said "why does that make field service any easier?".....well duh...everyone we call on already thinks they are going to heaven....and now they might be!....so that is one less objection to overcome...lol....oompa

I had been discussing this matter with my PO the year before.......

I saw a Diane Lane TV special about her being representive of a generation but not actually of that generation.

    Damn conditioned self regulation!

When you are born in you really do just have a zombie type mentality. Never having any other perspective I just bought it. I didn't attach it much to 1975 because I was just a child in 1975. I have a lot of friends now that were younger during the 1995 thing (dating getting married) it just went right over their heads. Many witnesses never study much any way, the religion for them is going out in service, to meetings, to assemblies and social events. They just keep doing those things like drones.

When that article came out, you knew inside, it was over. It was alllllll crap.

Then comes, "I can't believe it's over and it's all crap!" So ya stick around a few more years and everybody complains about it. Then a few leave, and the rest that used to complain about it stay and pretend it doesn't matter.

    Riiiight....
