I was talking to an old friend who moved away. Although he knows my stance we're still cool. He said he had heard that the hours are gonna change. Whether the rumor just spread that far I dont know.
I was dis-appointed to learn he was now a pioneer.
Is it now safe to say the pioneer hour reduction rumor was a hoax?

they can figure out how to have special campaigns with flimsy tracts next service year to further reduce the cost of pioneers placing literature.
I think this is the more likely scenario. I doubt they want to reduce the number of pioneers or have them spend less time in service. JW mind control only works if people are completely immersed in the "theocratic lifestyle." Too much free time can eventually lead members to break the mental grip and see the flaws in the organization. If they're hurting for money (as all signs seem to point to) my guess is they'll cut back on the cost of the literature they distribute.

Saw this on an active-JW board today:
It was announced at our meeting this week that a brother at Bethel
addressed this rumor at Breakfast. Time reduction is a rumor. He said
this is an example of rumors that get started and spread because we
don't wait on food at the proper time. It can be discouraging to many
pioneers who might be having difficulty getting in their time and then
are disapointed when they find it is just a rumor.
Many pioneers in our congregation were waiting for this announcementnt
(including me) this laid it to rest. Back to work wiser. -

Ah, that doesn't mean anything. Until it gets read to the congregation - it's a rumor. That doesn't mean it's not going to happen, but if you get a whiff of news that is on the horizon and know about it before the official announcement ... well, you're running before Jehovah's chariot! Gotta wait on Jehovah.

I would not have imagined that the pioneer hours would have been reduced from 90 to 70 but it was. I can imagine that given enough time and circumstances it will happen again. It has been almost 10 years.
*** km 1/99 p. 7 par. 3 Adjustment in Hour Requirements for Pioneers ***Therefore, in view of the above, the Society has reduced the hour requirement for both regular and auxiliary pioneers. Starting with the 1999 calendar year, the requirement for regular pioneers will be 70 hours each month, or a total of 840 hours for the year. The monthly requirement for auxiliary pioneers will be 50 hours. The hour requirement for special pioneers and missionaries remains unchanged, since provision is made by the Society to help them care for their basic material needs.

It was rumored here a year ago that the position of presiding overseer was going to be done away with. It only happened last month.
I'm reserving judgement on this one.

Damn - it was the PO that was done away with, not the CO. I told someone that the other day....
Silly rumours. It would be nice to have a database of factual information on all these changes - not just what could be happening.

After all the talk about it here on this forum I had mentioned the reduction of hours to my sister. My nephew is a pioneer and I said how that would make his life a little easier. Thankfully, he is going to college while he is pioneering. She wasn’t at all surprised by what I said. In fact she told me it wasn’t suppose to happen until January. So both her and my nephew are of the belief that it will happen in January. I spoke to her about this in October. Haven’t discussed it since.

The date seems to keep changing... I heard March also...

If this all a hoax......and I am not ready to say that...I will wait until March too.
Then which should the WTS be more worried about..... the rate it spread or the joy expressedby members?
Perhaps this is/was a viable idea but with so many other changes it might have been cut if reporting isn't necessary.
I do still see it being a good idea if reporting is altered further then the 20th letter. It would put more JWs in pioneer school for more indoctrination sessions to make them feel special and wanting to seek more 'special' feelings. We still need converts and converters.
I think the information age has exposed us to the earlier works in progress at the WTS...... and I am happy to hear about it!
So to all the Bethelite Blabbermouths.....
