... to do the invocation at Obama's swearing in on January 20, 2009?

Gregor asked this on BTS's thread, but I am afraid it may get buried underneath all the other stuff.

What denomination is Rick Warren and why all the blather about him giving the inaugural invocation? He looks like a clone of Jerry Falwell.

Because Atheists and White Liberals saw Obama's election as a slam dunk against religion, only to find out that they have traded one preacher for another, with similar values at that !!

That Obama kid it trying his darndest to play center feild like "Willie Mays". He will do anything to project the populist image ....

Warren was educated at three different schools, the first was Baptist, I'm not sure about the others. I am fairly sure his church is not affliated with any denomination. He is VERY far from being a clone of people like Falwell. Although conservative on some issues he has taken much more liberal positions on issues like poverty relief and the environment. This is becoming more common in the Evangelical commnunity, the church I attend is also taking a broader approach to a number of subjects.

I don't know why anybody is surprised at this news. During the campaign Obama said he wanted to be more inclusive of other opinions. He also said he was opposed to gay marriage. I suspected all along that too many people swept up in the excitement weren't paying attention to what he actually said.

One thing is for sure, he is smart as f***. He is defusing the extremists at both ends of the spectrum, instead of pandering to them.

All his support from the far far left is having an Ice-cream headache already. Obama style may have masked his substance... i guess 4 years of 'action' will be needed to define his 'words'

Snowbird... that Illinois and Federal voting record will come back to bite him on the butt. If Obama plays the middle while in the big house folks will figure he's just another John Kerry.

Obama was pretty definite about gun rights and abortion etc... and this economic mess will be full time ---and probably have priority ahead of the war.

Like so may before ...he's set him self up to "waffle"

Rick Warren is his own denomination. Stepping out of the Calvary Chapel mode, he is a progressive version of the modern Christian right.

I was part of a denomination (Hope Chapel) of a denomination (Foursquare). They all get along pretty good, contrary to what the JWs think. In fact, if you went to Rick's church, you would feel quite welcome and not be forced to accept any agenda. If you haven't attended a church like Saddleback, try it before you cop an attitude. :-0

Rick is a power player... Obama is picking all his power players. This should be obvious with the Clinton selection. :-))

I'm all for that idea, at least he's a more moderate voice than Falwell or Robertson. Be happy folks, he could be worse!
