The main person I neglected because I had to get my time in was me.

I was pioneering when I was 20 years old instead of going to college.

I remember being out in feild service at like 2 pm on a Tuesday afternoon.

Thinking if Armegeddon doesnt come by 75, I am screwing myself, Thats when I had my first sick feeling, inkling about 1973.

Because all my worldly friends from high school were going to college.

I remember my wife had to be taken to the hospital when she went into labor with our son by my mother, because I was out in field circus pioneering.

There were no cell phones back in the 70's

Yeah, same here, 1973. That's when I KNEW for sure that it was all a big, cruel hoax. I was a little younger than you. I planned my escape and I did go to college. I hope your life is better now.

Funny my husband and I were just talking about this in the car today. Remember Ray Franz talked about sacred service in CoC. We always tried to help people, I just always thought it was more important to take an older person to the doctor than go out in service on a Wednesday morning. Because I am in the medical profession, I have helped many people with real life problems. A sister in our hall was quite young and dying of cancer. Her husband was overwhelmed by the whole thing, trying to work, take care of the house and her. Some of the friends were really great bringing meals, but he could only eat so much lasagna. What he really needed was someone to help with her at night so he could sleep for awhile. It was my privilege to sit up with her at night, but I really wasn't up for service or anything extra while she was dying. I thought it was such a insult to come and see her on a Saturday at 1100am with service clothes on because you needed a break! We would visit her in work clothes saying what can we do laundry? mow? clean the bathroom? We really became "sisters" talking at 200am about life and death, not gossiping in some car group. My husband and I have helped in many situations like this and it has been the best part of being in the organization.

To FlyingHighNow: When I was appointed a book study conductor almost 30 years ago, one of the few kind elders we had was discussing helping JW's to get to the meetings. He said he could never understand how most JW's (at least in his experience) would drive miles out of their way to pick up a "Bible study" on a regular basis, yet never pick up a baptized publisher who might have been a JW for years. He said "why spend all that effort and time on a "maybe" or even a "probably not" when there are "definitely JW's for decades" trying to find a ride? I guess it kind of ties in with what you said.

my mom was bedridden for a year before she died.. There are six brothers and sisters in my family. So for one year we would each spend 24hrs shifts with our mom in her home. A nurse for a few hrs. doing the day and then would take over until the next day until one of my brothers or sisters arrive. Two members in our family are JW, three non JW and me df..The one sister a jw, the only one that could not meet her commitment. Her meetings were more important. She would come to me , so I would take her shift...Cold, the person who gave birth and help her financlally...When my mom pass, she was first in line for her share of the will..

The dub organization has a very poor record of "taking care of its own" and is widely known as a religion that "shoots its wounded." They talk a good game.

But if someone who needed help was well - connected in the hall/circuit/district I noticed that they received help almost immediately.
