I've Got To Tell This!

I used to think that babies just "happened" to women, and I thought it was HORRIBLY unfair that if a baby "happened" to a married woman, she'd get love and support and a baby shower and happiness, but if it "happened" to a single girl, she'd get disfellowshipped and shipped away!

I would sometimes sit on the toilet in fear that I might look down and find that I had birthed a baby in the toilet. And then I'd be disfellowshipped, too. I think I was maybe nine or ten.

When we learned about periods in school, they never made it clear that it came in cycles. They said you'd get it when you were about 13, and it would stop when you were in your 50s. So I thought it would be continuous, every day, for nearly my whole adult life. Thank GOD it's not!!

I got my first period at a wedding. But my dress was rust colored so I didn't have to worry til I came home.

LOL @ snowbird. I am sure the only time my parents did it was when I was conceived. I mean mom couldn't stand dad after she got PG. Now my dad is married to someone else, he is 78 and takes viagra. YIKES!!!

Snowbird, funny thread. I hope the young gal is okay.

bekbks said: "It's tough to be a girl. You men skate through life with nary a care in the world."

Ummm... I know this is a 'gals' thread, but I definitely and most vocally disagree with this. I remember going through he** when I was about 13 or so. My mom - at one point gave me a lecture... but it was more aimed at gals, than guys - I feel. I don't think I want to relate it here. (Of course, she denied it later.)

Now we continue with the ladies chatting...

Well maybe "nary a care" is a bit extreme but at least guys don't have to worry about bleeding uncontrollably for about a week out of each month and we haven't even touched on the cramps and the bloating

I got my Aunt Flow at the age of 12. My mom called my grandmother and told her I was a women now. I wanted to kill her. I knew what it was and I knew it was coming. MY mom believed in talking openly and honestly about sex and sex organs. I had no confusion about anything.

I once got my period at a DC ( not my first). My parents had driven back to Cleveland from South Bend Indianna when I was about 13 or 14 to pick up my dad's paycheck to pay for the room. I got my period and I wanted to go swimming. I has my male cousin drive me to the drug store so I could buy tampons I had to ask a lady which ones to buy (my mom used super) and I was of course not informed about the diffrent sizes they came in. I had never used them before that. My Aunt found out and was mad at both him and me. She was mad at me for using them because I wasn't a virgin anymore according to her and she was mad at my cousin for driving me to the store and giving me the money to buy them ( my mom paid him back later). My mom told her off when she got back later that night. My mom was a real rebel when it came to sex ed. She told me everything from the age of 5. Mostly because I was raped at 5 and because I used childish words to describe my private parts. She insited we use proper terms. I knew how babies got born and everything.
