Does anyone else remember the "soy" convention? It was one of the big ones in California--either San Francisco or Oakland. We ate standing at tables made of plywood. Every day it was a new soy horror. It seems like one day they shaped it like a chicken leg, but maybe I just thought it would be funny if they did!

Also does any one remember all the boasting about the assembly feeding program and how even the military was said to be fascinated by it

Yes OUTLAW, I remember that spiel- I went to the 7 day assemblies in the early 70's- I think after 1975 they got shorter as they ran out of wind in their talks.

Back then, assemblies were mostly in outdoor stadiums in the full summer heat, which was bad for the elderly and small children. The Society didn't care, I know they didn't admit their assembly was responsible for the one week old baby that died at an assembly in the Chicage heat. But, the end was so-oo close they kept telling us in 1972,73,74- well, in 75 they started hedging on the end coming that year as even 'ol Freddy Franz admitted that too many Biblical events would have to happen in such a short time, that well- lets just hang on a little bit longer brothers!

There was always boasting coming off the platform at Assemblies on how well organized the food preparation is for the people attending

and how clean and orderly the facilities was being kept, very much unlike the other groups that had used the facilities, this self promoting propaganda

really came on strong at the closing comments.

No wonder most jws men turn out to be janitors or window washers.

    Cleanliness is close to godliness

That reminds me of my own personal circumstances, because when I was a young child sitting out in the sun for any length of time made get sun stroke

to a point of passing out, this happened to me a couple of times during those outdoor assemblies and even today I have to be careful being out in the hot sun.

Yes fond memories those Assemblies were ....not

I remember 4 day assemblies and also having 2 x 2 day circuit assemblies per year. I think the time line is approximately as follows 1986 reduced to 1 one day SAD and one 2 day CA - saving a Day every year 1989 reduced to 3 day District Convention saving 1 day every year 2006 Public Talk reduced to 30 minutes saving 15 minutes every week 2008 Bookstudy done away with saving a whole evening every week. This is the biggest time saver can anyone correct or add to?

Maybe the down turning is occurring because many of their old time doctrines have grown complacently weak and contravening to their intension.

In an effort to make them still seem viably truthful , less is more is the case

I remember in the 80's going to one that had a half day, I don't remember much about the assembly itself, but I do remember going to the national zoo either on the half day or the day before.

I want to say it was 4 1/2 days.

I remember the 8 day assemblies too...we went to the LA one in '63 and it was being held at the same time as the Billy Graham Crusade. The newspapers were always reporting on who had the larger attendance, as if it was a competition! My starkest memories of those marathons were, heat, hard seats and working in the concession stands making fruit bowls!! Ahhhh, those were the days.

I remember the 4 day conventions. Thursday and Friday would always have really low attendance because it usually fell on the same day as finals or graduation for students and most folks did not want to take off work. We only went to the convention field service arrangement once. The brother told everyone to just do return visits. We went home and watched cartoons.
