UC, I felt the same way at one time.

I don't subscribe to the Trinity, but I'm convinced both the Father and the Son are God.

    because?.

Nothing else I've encountered makes the kind of sense that the Bible does.

Don't you think people in other countries sans the Bible are grappling with the same issues?

Who are we? Why are we here? Whence evil? Are things ever going to get better?

Show me any other religious work or holy book that answers those questions, and I'll shut my mouth.

BECAUSE YOU WANT IT TO MAKE SENSE!

The bible is one of the stupidest most nonsensical books every written! It makes no sense, it contradicts itself, it lies, it advocates the worst kinds of behavior imaginable! It's murderous, if it was made into a movie it would be rated XXX and confuse the french!

"if it was made into a movie..."

Many parts of the Bible have been adapted for cinema and television. The Biblical story of Jesus sacrifice was very graphically portrayed in a recent movie by Mel Gibson. I know of many Witnesses who outright condemned the film without ever seeing it.

"Who are we? Why are we here? Whence evil? Are things ever going to get better?"

Does the Bible really answer these questions, or do people make up their own answers and then use passages in the Bible to back them up? I highly recommend studying some real Biblical scholarship. Richard Friedman's Who Wrote the Bible? is a great place to start.

"Who are we? Why are we here?" We are somewhat intelligent animals that eat, reproduce, and die. Want more than that? Study anthropology, biology, history, paleontology, astronomy, etc. You and I are so fortunate to live in a time period with so much accumulated knowledge. Read, study, and USE it.

"Whence evil?" There is no absolute Good and Evil. Once again, read and study sociology, psychology, philosophy, ethics, and neuroscience.

"Are things ever going to get better?" Paradise? Utopia? Forget about it. Make your life as good as you can make it right Now. NOW is all there really is. Ever. The future and past are just abstract mental constructs. Besides, when you and I die, it is over. I have yet to read of any evidence that a consciousness can exist without the neural network of the cerebral cortex to create it. Brain damage effectively alters consciousness, therefore brain death eliminates it. Of course, in the long term the astronomical sciences show that eventually all life on Earth will die as the Sun gradually expands in its later life stages in a couple billion years or so.

    "Whence evil?"

What we consider evil, among ourselves are merely vestiges of animal traits. Although, many things we do, that are animal are not considered evil. Any crime, any negative action, look in the animal kingdom, and you will find it.

'Are things ever going to get better?'

Things have generally been getting better for thousands of yrs. Sure, we have setbacks. As far as people in general are able to control their animal natures where they are considered to be negative, and they let their spiritual side or creative side come forth, thing do improve. Of course, we could get hit w another asteroid or super volcanoe and get seriously set back, again.

Primate and Satanus, I'm a few hours shy of a degree in History.

I've read and re-read books that deal with just about any subject under the sun.

I still believe the Bible has more merit than all of those combined.

That is my belief; I don't condemn anyone else for thinking otherwise.

    Thank you.

And your STILL not on US1! It doesn't matter if you believe something or not! It doesn't make it fact! I believe that the universe was shat out of the behind of a three headed goat named the great pooperilla! Do you think I could reasonably expect people to respect those beliefs? HELL NO! Your gibberish is no different.

On the subject of evil. Socrates had a good point about that, he said that no man knowingly does evil (this of course was back before serial killers etc) but if you think about it you will see that for the most part he's right. Was Hitler 'evil?' We say HECK YEAH but would Hitler have considered himself evil? He really truly believed that the Jews were a threat to his country and his race! He thought that what he was doing was good! Just something to think about.

I want you to think about what you've written above.

    Think long and hard, ok?

    Thank you.
