You Know,
I agree with what you have said about all the problems worldwide, and yes it does seem bleak. But.........if you look back on history there have been many many times that virtually the same thing has happened. Look at history. I don't know where you live but from reading about our United States history, so many things also could have been applied to the system going downhill. I am sure that at these times many could have thught that the end HAD to be near because of the way things were at the time.
There are many wars in history causing death and famine (from lack of farming and also from a lack of money due to the war). For those people living at that time they probably couldn't imagine life ever getting better, they probably felt that this is it, nothing can change this situation. But history shows that man is very resilient and HAS come back from many trials.
I think that in this day of mass media (newpapers, television) we are more aware of things happening ALL over the world, not just in our own communities. When the scope of the problems enlarges, of course the groups of people screaming that the end is near or the world is going to collapse is also going to also enlarge.
I live in Arizona and I went to Tombstone where they have the famous "outlaw" cemetary. There are many others buried there also, not just outlaws. I am digressing. I went through the cemetary and the amount of people that were shot or hung was unbelievable, especially considering that this was a very small town. The crime rate was out of this world. If that were to happen today, no one would be safe. So in that sense we are better off than they were at that time.
I am tending to ramble, but I had to say that I do not believe that the world is any worse off than it ever was. We just have many more people than ever before and we have the media to sensationalise and spread the news worldwide making it appear like the world is worse off than it really is.
