Most black here are mixed and we just call them black. There are those who want a special catagory to identify "mixed" folks but I think that would really include most native born American black of slave ancestry.

And no I don't agree with your premise, Obama is just a man who happens to be black. I don't expect him to improve my quality of life simply because I'm black too nor have I heard that senitment from any of my black friends and family.

I got on this late but is there such a thing as a half black person in America? See in my mind in America to be black mean to be of African ancestry but that doesn't mean that the person is wholy African. I'm black but I know for a fact that I am not wholy African. Obama is black but he is not wholy African. Does anyone get what I'm saying?

any black family that didnt get of the boat from Africa the last year or so...

I was raised down South.... aint many black folks whos family aint got a white man hiding in the woodpile...

mrs. jones, Yes, I understand what you're saying. But now that opens a whole can of worms that most people don't want to hear: There really is no such thing as "pure" race.

When you really ask people to define race, it usually boils down to appearance only. Superficial.

I've written lengthy diatribes on this topic but will restrain myself here. Basically, IMO, the concept of race seems to have originated with ancient religions, including the Bible. I don't see much of a scientific definition of race, whereas there are clear lines between groups of people.

Just got this on my MySpace page, interesting.

A group of black activists in Brixton, London, UK are building an amazing project called Black Cultural Archives where they are collecting, preserving and celebrating the history and culture of black people in Britain. The first project of is type in the UK,

They have already raised £4m of the £6m required for the project. We need you to pass the word on to your friends and contacts. The volunteers at Black Cultural Archives cannot do this alone and as witnessed in the USA the power of the web and small donations can bring about change, please visit and encourage others to visit:

Obama has so much wealth he largely bypassed the traditional media avenues. That is fine when things go well. When he is under pressure a very different Obama will be seen.

When he does fall it will be a sorry sight to see.

Many Americans thought he had some 'pretty' ideas but no real plans on implementation of those campaign musings.

I mean he hasn't announced when all of us Americans are getting high-speed internet during his presidency but it was in his campaign plans.

Come what may, we survived Bush and we will survive Obama.

If for some reason he blunders beyond reality, he just won't be re-elected and his party will suffer from being 'unpopular'.

Well I guess that all depends on the individual. I know some multi-racial people (varying in age) who say it is all about 'appearances', others the mother's ethnicity, some even insisting on the one-drop rule...... now days (unlike in Obama's youth and younger man days) a person gets to choose if they so please......(most identify as being a person, not a race)

There is no such thing as "mixed race" in the US. Mr. Obama is considered Black or "Mixed" since he had 1 White parent and 1 Black parent. As mrsjones5 stated, most African-Americans in the US are descendants of African slaves and are racially mixed. The culture in the US is such that a racially mixed person of African descent is considered Black or African-American.

I have heard no African American voice a belief that Mr. Obama's presidncy will make a radical change in his/her life. His presidency offers a hope for change; nothing more. Hope. If there's one lesson learned from history, it's that the African-American community has the power to effect change for themselves.

Obama was raised by his grandmother who was by his own words , "a typical white person". Obama's thought process has been imprinted by a white upbringing and I think he will not be a favorable to the black agenda as the media thinks. As a "typical politician" we will find out Obama's promises in 2008 have been more air than substance.

In all seriousness, i think Obamas litmus test is how he dances. If in 8 yrs he does not dance as a black man (as I expect) he will be a let down for me.

    MTS....

What moves are you hoping he might bust?

Would it bother that much if he is only 'black' on the outside?

Reminds me....... when you start dating, don't limit yourself by color....... personality is best and it is always colorblind.
