    Simon,

Two boy's! Great job Simon..I always wanted a son.

Chocolate buttons must be very similar to our US Hershey's Kisses?

You like toy trucks and stuff to eh? I have to clients one John Deer the green tractor's with yellow wheels, and Peterbilt Trucks, both of which have many scale model toy replica's of their products. In my office at home you will find scale models of tractor's, tanker trucks, tanks, and nascar race cars...all of these gifts I treasure very much.

Did you get the Lionel Train sets we had here in the states? I could hardly contain my glee, when I got my first set, with an engine that puffed real smoke. Damn if I had saved that set, today it would be worth real money.

As far as our mates putting up with us...I believe it's true in every solid relationship. Iam sure she appreciates your mention of her love, to the world! What better testament can you give?

UH Simon, you can mention Britney anytime...except as I have said to Tracy before, those images tend to fog my brain. Or should I say clog, bog, get me going, enliven, stand erect,...oh shoot you know what Iam trying to say.

    Seven,

Somehow I knew you would already be a fan of Bocelli. He is perfect to drink wine to. I can pick out a couple of Italian words, so you get kinda what he's singing about, but your imagination takes care of the rest. His duo with Celine Dion 'The Prayer', is just perfect. In fact when I die, it will probably be played, just because I listen to it so much.

    LOL with the men's toys.

I bought my husband a coffee cup 'bout 10 years ago with the saying: He who dies with the most toys, wins.

He just sold his old '49 Stinson airplane (had long before he got me). Guy he sold it to worked on it to get it to fly to Alaska - and fell in love with the Ol' Bess. My husband actually got misty eyed telling me about it. He sold his corvette after our marriage - found out my Accord was much more comfortable.

Now he's looking at corvette's again. Or a motorcycle (which he's had several.)

Scale models? Loves 'em. Thus, he leaves my gardening over-expense quietly alone.

    Kismet,

Good to hear from you again.

Even though I hate to admit it, one of the smells forever etched in my brain, involved attending the 1958 International assemblies in New York. We boarded the 'Chief' in Pasadena Ca. and had two days and three nights of heaven on wheels..for a nine year old like me.

Even today when stepping up into a passenger train, that smell hits me like it was 1958 again. The lounge car was where I learned to really play poker, the dining car my first real exposure to white table clothes and fine linen, and the porter's/brakemen were just so 'keen'( I believe the word was then).

God man your remembrance of 'everything I do' in the background almost had me misty. Johnie Mathis was the all time love song swooner, there have been many times in my life when listening to his voice and songs, I had to turn him off, or just start to cry like a big hulking cry baby. Sometimes its just one or two notes, is all it takes.

Yes Lucky is my son. My lady could not stand the fact that he wanted to be my friend first. She would always tell me I was ignoring him, not paying him enough attention. All the while she was trying to force him to be a lap kitty. All at the same time I would discipline him with a firm strong voice. He will only obey me...just gets my lady so frustrated. I must admit he is now warming up to her more, so she doesn't feel so left out. Iam amazed how much you can train a kitty.

As far as your thoughts on a loving woman and big hearty filets of any kind....I can only add one additional thought... Just Yeah Baby!

    Zazu,

You mentioned some good ones: Lightning and thunderstorms; the first day after a long winter when you open up the house and let in the first breeze of spring...

But my favorite of yours is leaf burning. Reminds me of my grandma - we called her Momo. She always seemed old to me, although my earliest recollection of her she was only forty or so. Hell, I'm older'n that, and someone calls me "old" will have hell to pay.

Anyway, as old as I thought she was, she loved working in her yard -- like there was no place she'd rather be. In the summer us three boys had to fight her for the lawnmower; in the fall, we had the chore of going over to help her rake her yard and help her rake and burn her leaves. Funny how 'chores' turn into treats after you don't do them anymore.

Anyway... that smell... man!! I'm trying to come up with a place right now where burning leaves is legal. I hope to pass on the memory to my little one. The old ways weren't so bad, as far as I can see.

    Thanks, Zazu.

    Thanks for starting this Dannybear.

When my son was just three he sang in his first Christmas concert. I just sat and wiped tears through the whole thing. Couldn't talk, afraid I'd start sobbing. Of course he was messing around on the stage a lot and the only thing he really sang was jingle bells but I loved every second and caught the whole thing on video.

Last weekend I took my three year old daughter to her first ballet. Pacific Northwest Ballet danced the Nutcracker at the Opera House in Seattle. Cost me $55 a ticket but worth every penny to see my little Princess' eyes light up when the ballerinas started to dance. She loves ballet and watches Barbie in the Nutcracker every day, but she had never seen live ballet. She just sat and watched the whole thing, never squirmed or talked. I'll never forget it.

My son has a way of making everyone feel great. He climbs on my lap several times a day just to tell me he loves me. He always greets his grandma Marilyn (mulan) and grandpa with a big hug. His eyes shine at Christmas.

What an awesome thread! I love it when people can bring up fond memories and enjoy the minutest thing about Life. I really think God wants us to enjoy the tiniest detail of it! So many things already covered that I would have written.

    Here are a few more...

The smell of the heater the first time you turn it on for winter. Always reminds me of my great grandmother's house. Also, the tick-tock of a grandfather clock. Another thing about gg's house I loved.

The taste of hot chocolate spike with peppermint schnapps. The first time I had this, I was with my ex-husband and his folks looking for a christmas tree at a tree farm. We sat around a bonfire with little thermoses of this wonderful concoction, while our trees got shaken.

The feeling of Play-do between your fingers. I played with this at Children's camp this past summer. It was the first time I touched it since I was a child. What is it about the dough-y, salty smell of Play-Do that is so comforting???

For some reason every time I hear The Eagles or John Denver, I think of my dad before he was assimilated into the borg. There were a few years that I remember with just the two of us. Things were good then. Back when he was a good daddy. For some reason that Eagles song...Johnny come lately...always makes me melancholy for my father. Have no idea why.

Seeing wooly worms cross the highway in the autumn. I remember playing with these furry little caterpillars and thinking they'd make great little pets. They were so soft and gentle.

The crunch of a burned marshmallow.

A blank sheet of drawing paper.

    New crayons.

    Fruit-scented markers.

The feeling of a pencil sharpener eating away the wood of a pencil.

New tennis shoes when school started.

Having a dog greet me every morning with her pink little tongue kissing my face.

Other things I love, but were already mentioned...

    Thunder/Lightning storms
    Smell of leaves/fire burning
    Kitty cat purring
The belly laugh of a small child - nothing like it!

*sigh* Okay...off to bed before I cry.

    Mornin Princess,

Met my 25 post limit yesterday, so was unable to respond.

Your expression about your son, making everyone feel great caught my eye. If he can keep that ability even as he grows older, he will have one up on the majority, in living as an adult.

I often thank my mother silently for emphasizing that to me at an early age. I blew it once around the age of 15, I walked in the door brushed past her and some company, mad about something, apparently with a frown on my face. She took me aside and very calmly asked what right I had to make everyone else feel bad, just because I was?
This little 5'4" woman with pure white hair, made me feel worse about my conduct that day, than any other. To this day, when Iam sad or down, I remember her advice.Encourage him he will thank you one day.

I have some misty eye's as regards former jw no-no's as well. The honest acceptance of the so-called worldly that we were so affraid to be apart of, has many times since leaving, proven to be such a farce, a big lie....there is alot of joy and love to be found in this "old system of things".

    Thanks for you additions Princess.

    Billygoat,

You were on a roll. Here shaking my head in agreement to almost everyone. The only one I have not tried, is Peppermint Schnapps in hot chocolate.....coffee yes....but I will have to try that one.

We have established a sort of family tradition, every Christmas morning it is my job to make sure we have at least one 'big' bottle of Bailey Irish Cream on hand, everyone has a Bailey's coffe in hand before any gifts are opened.

    Thanks misty eyed one.
