I am truly from South Africa

Some on here have queried / asked if I'm honestly from South Africa. I am a born & bred south african woman - I do not have a stamp on the bottom of my foot to prove that (if I did have a stamp it would probably read "made in china" anyways) It's at the bottom tip of Africa for those that are geographically challenged.

From my pic you can see that I'm caucasion...however I am one of them mixed childrens - actually my parents' wedding caused quite a stir in the papers way back in 1976 "White woman marries Coloured man" Apartheid in full swing - that being said though (and for everything my family went through) we haven't benefited from the change over - no hard feelings.

South Africa isn't a huge place. To travel from Durban (on the East coast) through to Cape Town on the west coast will take you about 19 hours or 2 hour flight. South Africa is a whole 2 000 kms wide. It may not be big, but baby it sure is beautiful, and I happen to live in one of the best cities - or so I think - Durban also known as South Africas' playground: sun, sea, surf, fun, stunningly beautiful people, friendly.

We have 11 official languages: 9 of them being of the african tongue.

We have such a diverse culture it will make your head spin. You can't really put your finger on one/two/three things - it's a potjie pot, a little bit for everyone.

And if every you are holidaying in my neighbourhood be sure to drop by - may make my home a geocaching spot.

I don't know if I believe you. I don't hear a South African accent when I read your post.

Thanks for the overview, Lou. You obviously write english very well but do you speak any of the dialects you mentioned? Several months ago you were very concerned about the rampant crime there. Have there been improvements?

Several years ago I got very involved in learning about your country and I have always been left with two strong impresssions, one is the beauty and richness of the country and the other is the lasting effects of colonial rule that left the native people impoverished. I can understand Mandela becoming a leader/icon after the end of aparthied but I also feel that socialism is not the long term answer for this situation . Wish we could visit your country.

    Best to you.

    LouBelle,

A native South African once told me that the WT religion is called "the forbidden truth" over there. Why are these terms used?

I'm really from Cleveland and I really live in Florida.

But I have come to realize most people here who say they live in exotic places are really from New Jersey.

And most men are women and most women are man.

    And so is LoLa.

Hah, that means "Thank you very much" right? I *just* had someone tell me that the other day. A former coworker moved to SA to help with a church there. He came back to the States recently for a visit and I saw him. lmao
