Local JWs plan on setting up booth at mall and college

I think you should copy some of the litter-ature's most damning anti-college and anti-science statements, and write to the college asking them not to allow them on the property. If the college does anyway, you could put up some flyers about campus.

Do they have a campus newspaper?

    Go from there.

It's true, the WT is just one more problem in a world with many. However, we are in a position that many are not. We have had first hand experience in the cult and that is valuable.

I wonder if your college would be as willing to let a group like the Moonies set up a booth there? Can you present information to the school administration about cults and how they operate? Or maybe to someone in the Psychology Dept.?

Steve Hassan, in his book "Releasing the Bonds," says that former members like us are in a position to make a real difference on this issue by speaking out. I don't know if your situation would allow you to do it publicly, but could you submit the information while requesting anonymity? The fact that you have to do that should be a red flag for someone at the college or the mall.

I truly believe you should apply to have a booth directly across from them. You should have big poster-sized copies of the headlines about the child sexual abuse settlements. You should have a tv/vcr playing with endless loops of the Dateline, etc., interviews with Bill Bowen, et al. You should see if you can get some flyers of some kind from FreeMinds and SilentLambs. Maybe have a laptop going with V's YouTube videos playing, also. On a college campus, charges of a pedophelia cover up are going to get a lot more attention than statements that the Dubs are anti-college, IMO.

Oh, and don't forget, in your booth, display copies of Captives of a Concept and Crisis of Conscience!

How about a copy of Gerrit Losch's talk with a link to Youtube of the talk.

You can probably get it printed on one page, highlight the anti-college part,

at a minimal cost. Just a suggestion, hehe, I hope you can pass them round,

    purps

Here is a transcript of the talk.

Going to college or not may be a reflexion of your faith,

    or lack of your faith,

and it may indicate how present the imminence of the Great Tribulation is in your mind.

    What is undoubtable is that

    the time left is reduced.

as Paul said in 1 Corinthians 7:29.

If you are currently going to college,

why don't you meditate in prayer

on the possibility of dropping out and doing something better?

But for us, who scrutinize the meaning of world events

in the light of Bible prophecy,

    there are more worthy reasons

for not putting a worldy career first in our lives.

We could liken ourselves to someone who sees a building

    with a sign that reads:

"This company is running out of business".

Would you apply for a job there?

    Of course not.

And if we were working for such a company,

we would wisely look for a job elsewhere.

Well, on all the institutions of this world

lies a sing (sic) reading 'imminent liquidation'.

    The end is near.

Yes, the Bible assures us that the world is passing away.

Therefore we will be wise and will not imitate those

who are an integral part of it.

Now you have listened to the advice.

    What will you do now?

Some advocate going to college by citing the example

of some elders children who are attending college or that did so [in the past].

We are not able, nor willing, to tell you what you should do.

Your parents and you should make a decision.

We are not the masters over your faith.

However, the Faithful and Discreet Slave has the responsibility

    to warn against spiritual dangers

and to encourage to put Kingdom interests first.

So, the Slave discourages from going to college for a long period of time.

I have often times heard experiences of individuals

who were about to complete their college programs,

and who dropped out when they learned the Truth.

Some other baptized individuals have turned down scholarships.

    What will YOU do?

What decisions will you make? Will you refuse or not?

Will you get a university education or not?

You will be accountable to Jehovah for this.

We would like to praise those in the audience

who dropped out of college when they accepted the Truth,

[as we praise] all those who, after listening to this talk,

    will make the same decision.

Maybe you still want to advocate the possibility of going to college.

You may say: "You see, Brother X went to college,

and now he is serving in the congregation and is also a pioneer".

True, he may have survived college, so to speak.

But what follows is a true experience of a young man

who suffered from a compulsive disorder which

made him wash his hands over and over again,

    even 100 times a day.

This disorder discouraged him so much,

that one day he decided to commit suicide.

    He bought a rifle,

    put it in his mouth,

    and pulled the trigger.

The bullet, however, didn't kill him,

but instead perforated the part of his brain

that was responsible for his compulsive disorder.

He survived and after that he managed to live a normal life.

    Yes, it's true,

    he survived,

but would you recommend that other people imitate what that young man did?

    Similarly, some have survived college,

but would you recommend that to others?

Instead of investing in a higher education,

it would be advisable to grow in the knowledge of Jehovah.

In order to start knowing the Bible better,

we must read the Bible every day.

    Every day.

    Are we doing that?

Snakes, I realize that you are in a fade and can't set up a booth or publically oppose the jws. However, at least where the mall is concerned, you should let the owners know that these people do not screen for child molesters or announce it if one is in their midst. What a public relations nightmare it would be for the mall to allow these bastards in, only to have one of them molest a child at the mall or meet a family where the child ends up being molested! Last summer when I heard that the "Knocking" documentary was going to be offered to schools for free, I wrote a letter to the school superintendent and then followed up with a phone call. He assured me that it would not be viewed in the school district in which I live.

    Here it is:

I recently learned that excerpts of the documentary entitled "Knocking" are now being included in the Community Classroom program sponsored by PBS and the Independent Television Service and will be offered to public schools across the United States for free. The content includes the story of Jehovah's Witnesses to educate students on civil liberties, religious tolerance, medical ethics and standing for what you believe.

Our school system very well may be solicited by Jehovah's Witnesses to permit the use of "Knocking", and I respectfully request your careful consideration of this important matter. Although Jehovah's Witnesses and their leadership known as the corporation of the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society have a reputation for their litigiousness regarding freedom of religion and speech in the past, they have recently been embroiled in court cases of a different nature.

In February 2007, nine lawsuits involving 16 victims of sexual abuse were settled with Jehovah's Witnesses and the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society. A gag order was placed on the victims. For at least the past six years, child molestation within and the cover-up of such by the organization of Jehovah's Witnesses has been in the news. Please see the following links for more information:

    http://www.silentlambs.org/education/multimedia.cfm

    http://www.watchtowerdocuments.com/downloads/Secrets_Commentary_Version_2.pdf

Many court documents and news events prove that Jehovah's Witnesses require two witnesses when a child comes forward with allegations of molestation within the congregation. Such allegations have customarily been treated as sins instead of crimes and are only reported to authorities when it is required to do so by law, (which varies by state). It has also been shown that child molesters within the organization usually have not been identified to the congregation members or the public at large. These people engage in a door to door ministry, possibly exposing children to pedophiles. Although the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society claims that known pedophiles are accompanied by a non-pedophile in such work, there is no law stating that such a practice must be followed.

If our school system finds it beneficial to introduce children to Jehovah's Witnesses through a Watchtower Bible & Tract Society-friendly lens, I hope the school administration at least gives a well-balanced view of this organization by also discussing their current legal problems. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Snakes, if you would like to use any part of this letter, please feel free. Also, is there a daycare center on site at the community college? If there is, I'd approach the school from the same angle as you would the mall. No one wants to have unscreened people around kids. At the very least, these dirty bastards should at least have to go through a background check to man the booths. Christ, I hate these people!

At the university I attend, the JWs have had a booth set up periodically. I have never seen anyone actually talking to them or taking their literature. I think it is a way for the JWs to count easy time more than it is a way to effectively contact people.

i live in California and the local witnesses have set up a booth in a mall to display their literature.

They usually use older ones in the congr. that cannot go from door to door and have them sit there for 8 hours.

It's really embarassing to see them, as hundreds of people walk by no one ever stops and show any interest.

In their mind they are giving a great witness to the public by showing their literature..

    jamie:

is there a daycare center on site at the community college?

there is...however..it is in its own building on the edge of the far parking area...not anywhere near where they would be allowed to set up a booth. However, the campus does have "College for Kids" programs and swimming lessons in the campus pool for young kids in the main buildings.

The mall is a disaster. In some ways it would be funny to see how little traffic they would get. Like many malls in the region, they are more vacant than occupied. A major non-anchor tenant is leaving now.

And you are right..I am in fade mode.... word is already getting around that "something" is not right about ol Brother Snakes, but they cant pin me yet...

I will be keeping an eye out on this though... as long as it doesnt distract from my college studies that is.
