Trust in Jehovah in these hard economic times--but send us money

Clyde has heard from two sources that a letter was read at the meeting last week. After encouragement to trust in Jehovah, they suggested that each publisher send about $5.70 to the Society each month to help support the organization. That's the way he heard it. Well, with a million publishers in the United States alone, that would be an $5,700,000 per month in revenue--in one year, $68,400,000. Pretty good income for a company that wants their adherants to "keep it simple."

Has anyone else seen or heard this letter read at their meeting?

For many years now that is the way they figure how much money they need. They add up the expenses and divide it by the number of publishers. But, they are very concerned about everyone. They cut out the bookstudy in homes to save everyone gas money. (Of course it takes far more money to drive around in field service)

How can they ask for any money at all? What about the boasting and great pride they take in NOT being like Christendom and asking for money or sending around a collection plate? My jw uses that one all the time. Is there a scan or anything of the request from NY we can get our hands on?

No, no, no. They are not passing a collection plate. They are not coming to individuals asking for pledges.

They are SUGGESTING the DONATION amount. You are never going to amount to anything in JW land if you don't comprehend the lingo. It is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from the churches when they ask for money.

You are obviously new and do not have the well developed JW guilt complex yet. The one where you feel you are never good enough, can never do or give enough, never measure up to others (unless you cross crocodile-infested waters and walk for days to get to a meeting-and that without any legs).

If you trust in JEHOVAH you will send in the money. Preferably in a larger amount, in check form, so that they will be able to see your name at the bottom and know that you are trustworthy.

hahah Quandry, "You are never going to amount to anything in JW land if you don't comprehend the lingo. " -- Youv'e got that right!! That's my big problem! when they split hairs and 'suggest' which really means get your ass in gear the GB has spoken!! (and every one knows if the GB has spoken it is the same as God Himself saying it!)

Would I be correct to assume that they still have to pay for the literature and is considered an entirely seperate issue?

Greedy bastards! I'm much less demanding. All I ask is that everyone send me a 'once in a lifetime' donation of one dollar. I would be content with that.
