In the UK you would need a special licence and proper facilities to keep a chimp or an "exotic pet"
Pit Bulls were banned a few years back under the "Dangerous Dog Act" after a spate of attacks. I am no expert on dogs so I cannot say whether or not the ban is justified

Several years agao, when I worked as an educator with the Friends of the zoo, the first animal we were warned against wasn't the lion, the hippo, or the wart hog, it was the Chimp. One day of chimp observation let me know the director wasn't kidding. I can't stand the critters. They are vicious and they smell bad.

Several years ago I had a Bible study with a woman who had a pit bull named Barney. Every time I came to her house, I greeted and pet Barney. He was so lovable.
Every afternoon Barney would go along with an older lady in the neighborhood as she took her daily walk.
One day, a little while into the walk, Barney, without provocation, attacked the woman and chewed her up badly.
About a month ago, here in Houston, a 60 year old man was killed by his grandson's two pit bulls.
They are an unpredictable breed.

I think people should be allowed to own whatever animal they desire. However, there should be regulations about having them in populated areas.
