Supposedly this information (at the individual level) is not released to anyone, not even other government agencies, for 80 years.... Even after 9/11 this is supposed to be the case....

    Uh huh....sure.

    a little census trivia.....

According to Matthew, Jesus was born during the reign of Herod the Great (Matthew 2:1). According to Luke, Jesus was born during the first census in Israel, while Quirinius was governor of Syria (Luke 2:2). This is impossible because Herod died in March of 4 BC and the census took place in 6 and 7 AD, about 10 years after Herod's death.

Some Christians try to manipulate the text to mean this was the first census while Quirinius was governor and that the first census of Israel recorded by historians took place later. However, the literal meaning is "this was the first census taken, while Quirinius was governor ..." In any event, Quirinius did not become governor of Syria until well after Herod's death.

    2 Samuel 24: 1-17

David wanted a census so that he "may know the number of the people".

The "number" specifically indicates military might. (24:9)

The consequence of this was that 70,000 people died.

Does this type of information come from the census, too?

This is strange, but recently 6 teenagers came to my door wearing T-shirts that identified them with a church. They said they were "conducting a survey". I told them "not interested". Then they wanted to know if they could give me literature. Again I said "not interested."

I wonder if some parts of national census are slyly conducted by groups like this. Perhaps the lower on the food chain you are, the less you know what is done with the information you are collecting.

BTW, I noticed a few minutes later a very late model fancy church van was inching down the road. It seems they were keeping watch on about 20 kids that were simultaneously covering both sides of the street.

    This is a strange painting.

It is titled "Census in Bethlehem". It was painted in 1566.

Why is the sky so dark and ominous?

Why would people be required to leave their homes in winter to make this flight or journey?

Wouldn't that be a journey of hardship?

Can you find the shadow of the bird on the snow?

What strikes you about this painting? What emotions or thoughts does it evoke for you?
