WHAT PUNISHMENT SHOULD MENTALLY ILL CRIMINALS GET?

If they are truly not competent then they should not be punished. They do need to be treated so they are not a danger to others and themselves. For once I agree with Six.

A person that is not responsible for their actions is not committing a crime by definition. This is a tragedy.

Punishment and retaliation leads to poorer society. Should we punish people because they are ill, when we do a civilised society is diminished?

What would CHRIST do in this situation?

I can remember the case of a kleptomaniac DF because the elders said that the Mosaic law made no allowance for mental illness.

In the case of a violent "demoniac" Jesus was compassionate.

Dangerously ill people should not be out on the streets where they pose a threat to everybody.

A carrier of plague would not be allowed out because of his "human rights".

My brother worked at a Mental Hospital, where a schizophrenic woman was being pushed to murder somebody. She kept requesting help, but was turned down. To get the treatment she needed, she smashed a jewellers window and grabbed a bracelet, then waited there to be arrested. In prison she got help.

With the mentally ill, it should never have come to an actual murder.

I just feel so sad for the victims, and those who should have had help sooner.

AND I want to ask WHY DIDN'T Almighty God use some of this All Singing All Dancing Power to stop it??

The other question - I asked myself - after seeing "CHANGELING" - was whether it is actually more cruel to incarcerate a man like this for life, and subject him to the absolute torture of feeling he has been unjustly locked away and unable to be a full human being in a world that has always served him short.

What do we do to dangerous animals, without moral quandary?

How many innocent babies could be saved with the money wasted keeping criminals alive in jail?

The further down the road I went I found you can justify the mass slaughter of 1 270 billion children to ensure the future happiness of mankind under God's Kingdumb, where the criminally insane will not exist, because their possible parents were killed too.

"Changeling" was quite a disturbing movie. I can't say I felt overly sorry for the murderer when he was hung. The incident Mary writes about is just as disturbing.

At the very least, a mentally ill person who kills should be locked in an institution. The problem with that is he is still able to do harm, often severe, to the others locked up with him.

oompa: "That is easy...they should have to go to meetings every night of the week at 4 different congregations!...and numerouls assemblies and conventions.....oompa"

That would constitute "cruel and unusual punishment" under U.S. law, oompa. Have a little compassion for these poor people whose only crime is knifing someone to death.

Well, in true Canadian fashion, this guy was found 'not criminally responsible' for beheading that innocent kid on the bus. Ya, I'd like to see this bastard released and live right next door to the judge. And when he beheads his kids, I'm sure the judge can take comfort in the fact that this guy was 'mentally unstable' and not really guilty:
