Alabama Killer had Grudges from Past Jobs-More Loose Cannon's Like Him ?

I haven't seen too many posts on this so I thought I'd approach this topic. Absolutely tragic story this week I'm sure many of you read where this man killed 10 people including family members after being totally stressed from bad things happening in his life - he cracked totally into pieces. He went on a rampage in 2 different counties in Southern Alabama killing these people, setting his house on fire, then committed suicide all in 1 hour's time !

The district attorney found lists at his home detailing the metal plant that forced him to resign years ago where he formerly worked , as well as a sausage factory where he resigned working at. In pages torn from a spiral binder this notebook included names of co-workers who he felt had wronged him, including one who reported him for " not wearing ear plugs ", another who made him " clean a meat grinder " , and a supervisor who "didn't like the way he cut pork chops ". Not something you think would motivate someone to kill somebody else.

Obviously there must be more to the story that was stressing this guy out. I read in the next day or two that he was rejected from becoming a policeman or joining the military. He fired more than 200 rounds in a 20 mile trail of carnage near the Florida state line . What a tragic waste of innocent lives as these people just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time when this guy went ape $hit nuts. Ridiculous and so sad.

But with all the stress in these hard economic times , it begs the question , " How many more people are out there just like this guy ? " Perhaps people at the end of their rope - sitting at the edge of a cliff in their life with tension so heavy just waiting for someone to knock a chip off their shoulder for some real or perceived grievance they have against somebody , or the human race itself ? It's just so tragic that innocent people were killed because of this guys own personal grudges and issues ! How did he slip through the cracks in his family without receiving proper psychiatric counseling or care ?

So I think it should make us all be aware that there are nutjobs out there who could take us down with them if we happened to just be in their way when they go down - and they'd take us with them ! So be careful my friends. Watch your back out there ! None of us ever know. Best to be watchful. So what are your observations on this ? I know we can't go walking around paranoid - however I feel it's important to watch all our backsides. I look forward to your opinions and takes on this. Please take care all of you - and a big Peace out to you all ! Mr. Flipper

Interesting questions, Flip. Of course there are bombs ticking out there. Many would never believe they could be the one in future headlines. Remember the movie, "Minority Report"? SF story about the gov't. developing a way to predict future criminals and then go and eliminate them before they could act out?

I truly believe we need to be an armed society. Not ideal, but better for a crack pot to be stopped after only 2 or 3 murders instead of 10 or 20 or ?

Sad story. One of Geneva County's deputies got a call to go to his own house. His wife and daughter had been killed, and his youngest daughter was sent to Pensacola for surgery.

This man had a grudge list, but he mainly killed family and innocent bystanders. There's another topic on here somewhere about the hero who slowed him down by ramming his car until the police could catch up. The death toll would have been MUCH higher had he actually gotten started on his list.

If you think about it, something like this happens all the time.......Columbine, VA Tech, the guy who gunned down people at McDonalds, the mall shootings. So many I can't remember all of them.

    Thanks for the replies.

GREGOR- I do remember that movie . A good one. These crazies do need to be stopped for sure. I believe in an armed society as well - but perhaps a closer scrutiny on the mental health of those purchasing firearms. It's not guns who kill people . It's the nutcases pulling the trigger. So we gotta have sane people using the firearms to protect us from the crazies.

DINAH- When I read this story I couldn't help but think of you and your family and Snowbird and where you guys live in relation to where this happened ! I feared for you for sure ! How close were you guys to this ? It's a good thing that guy rammed his car into thisnutcase before he killed even more ! And I agree- this kind of thing DOES happen all the time. That's why I posted the thread so all of us will be careful when we are out and about. You just never know when someone is going through the $hitters in life and wants to take the world down with them. Kind of like the old expression, " misery loves company ". It's so sad those 10 people died. Jesus. I'm glad you and your family are alright

Once again we are seeing another rash of these insane slaughters by people who feel driven to settle their grievances by the execution of innocent fellow humans. None of them deserving of death. Typically the killers kill themselves and avoid any consequences.

To me it all comes down to an innate flaw in the appreciation and valueing of life. Where is empathy for other people? where is compassion? where is a belief in oneself to fight adversity rather than go out in a vindictive rage at the first encounter with frustration?. Something is missing with these people, something is wrong and it can only be coming from their upbringing and environment. JW's, of course have all the answers, and can pigeonhole every tragic news bulletin under "signs of the time of the end". Maybe that is the best attitude to take. I can't understand it myself, but I think the human race is in decline wherever food.clothing and shelter (not to mention an entertainment driven existence) are taken as rights and no real effort is required of an individual to survive and be fullfilled.

AIG heads are getting death threats and they've posted guards outside the buildings now as they fear for the safety of the employees now that we all know how much they got paid by the taxpayers. I was able to see the committee hearings on television and as was pointed out, it becomes a huge joke to listen to a CEO cry about how his employee's are worth millions of bucks and yet at the same time, force UAW workers to reduce their wages and benefits by 50% - and they work for far less than what those guys at AIG were earning. And for what?

To add insult to injury, there is a threat that if we try to take back the bonuses, that those high paid crooks will turn around and sue - and if they do so, it is even more likely that the US taxpayer will also foot that bill which could easily include lawyers in high places being paid 500-1,000 an hour.

People are hurting and there's no telling what makes people explode once they've had enough.....sammieswife.

    Sammie,

Wow, That is quite a staement. Do you own a firearm? LOL. I suggest you read some poetry, have a glass of wine and enjoy a sunset. I'm with you, babe. It is frustrating as hell but I can only say we shouldn't let this crap rob us of too many moments in our short lives.
