I have also noticed that in society, when the economic level of black people comes up to the economic level of white people then they usually start sunbathing too, on holiday for example.

I actually get asked that question from time to time. We tan too. lol I just don't stay out in it as long. 30mins is enough for me. My mother is a darker tone, so she doesn't sunbathe for tanning purposes really. But she still likes to sunbathe for other reasons. And plus it just feels good if not overdone. But that goes for anybody. The sun feels good to me, and plus it provides vitamin D like it was mentioned.
And EVERYBODY should wear sunblock, no matter what race. Safety first.

Hey SilentOne - kinda makes you wish you didn't "wonder" out loud about this one, huh? LOL Anyway, the direct answer to your question is some do and some don't. It comes down to a matter of personal choice. My mother hated lying out in the sun, but my sister loves it and cherishes her tan as much (or more) than some of my white friends. Personally, I tan as a side-effect of being outside - not because I lay out and work at it. As a kid, I loved watching my light mocha color deepen into a caramel brown!
As a side note, although we are less likely to burn than our white friends, it appears that if a black person ever burns once, then they are more likely to burn in the future. (I had a similar burn experience as MochaLatte - a 24 hour boat trip!) Now, I literally feel my skin heating up and begin the burn, and I never felt that before the boat trip.

For the record, yes, black people do sunbathe. They also wear sunblock, they tan and they even sunburn. Its a great way to even out your skintone for skimpy summer outfits, a great source and vitamin and it just feels good.
Personally, I love the "golden" tone it gives my skin. Sometimes even black people can use a little "color".

oh you should see our beaches!
lying in the sun is healthy for you (for limitied periods) - no matter what colour you are - we all need the vitamin D

Someone called?
Yes, Black people sunbathe. I did this weekend.
One thing I have noticed is that we seem to be able to stand the sun's heat more so than White people.
I used to work with this sweet White lady in FS. After about half an hour in the sun, she would be ready to crumple!
She asked me - very tactfully - how I could stand so much sun. Honestly, it didn't bother me all that much. After all, I used to pick cotton in the blistering sun from August until October!
You guys needn't get so riled at AS1. He's just curious.
This reminds me of a conversation I had with my daughter this weekend concerning researchers from the Alan Guttmacher Institute trying to figure out why female Black teenagers seldom smoke.
Any takers?

White female teenagers smoke to project attitude. Do female black teenagers already project attitude?
