One of the best things about this story is the vivid contrast it shows between attitudes of so-called "worldly people" and members of the dub cult. This guy embraced your reaching out and picked up where you left off so many decades ago. Imagine a dub getting such a call from a "worldly person." Whole different scenario.

CAMEO-D- Thanks. I do hope people will try to contact old friends as it is horrible our friends were stripped from us upon being in the mind control cult Jehovah's Witnesses . They accept us with open hearts and open arms.
NELLIE- Yes exactly. With the age of facebook and the internet it is easier to reconnect with people .
SNOWBIRD- I know how you feel. You know my friend, we weren't fools, just controlled in our minds to think any non JW people were bad and told we couldn't associate with them. We were just controlled badly. I hope you can reconnect with your old acquaintances also.
ISAACAUSTIN- Very true point you make . Those of " the world " are mostly totally good ! Not at all like the witnesses say.
MADDIE- It certainly does show how the witness cult forced us to do things we really knew were wrong . It haunted me for years - and I can't tell you how good it feels to get that monkey off of my back ! I look forward to rekindling the friendship ! Thanks.
I QUIT- It is amazing how forgiving and friendly the non-witnesses are in comparison to witnesses taking us back. With the witnesses, everything is conditional .

CRAPOLA- Good point you make. I'm glad you reconnected with your D/Aed friend and you are right - by their happy response to rekindling the relationships it does show how horrible and wrong shunning is ! And the fact it feels so right getting back with our friends !
WILYLOMAN- It really does show the difference between a JW cult mind controlled response to receiving old friends back as opposed to a non-cult response. With cult members their friendships are always conditional. Not so with non-witnesses.
AWAKENED at GILEAD- I'm so glad you reconnected with old classmates also ! That's cool. There is more love out in the " world " than in the witnesses for sure !
VILLABOLO- My wife is really happy for me to reconnect with my old friend ! She can really see the difference in how real people treat their friends as opposed to how witnesses treat their so-called friends. She is very supportive to me !

Like the Beatles said, "money can't buy me love".
I just got back from a break with an old school friend BTW. We have known each other since we were four years old. I have now reached the dizzy heights of forty years old!
The older and wiser you get, the more one values relationships over material things.
Anyhow, back to the JWs, I wonder how they reconcile this type of verse with their beliefs in regard to disfellowship?
