Wow, I wasn't expecting Italy to get cashed in like that. It's been a devout and growing territory. I thought you might have said Switzerland, but I don't know if they'd get that much money for the branch. It's a nice building, but in a residential area. It will be interesting to see how it unfolds. I would think that the Italians and all Europeans would start to tire of an American religion.

Things like this are an admission that the Organization isn't growing, they're losing money, and the end isn't coming THAT soon.

FuzzyPaul, if you have information, please report it to the FBI.

Some of the things you mentioned are not illegal, and others may fall under the jurisdiction of the IRS.

Where is the FBI, you asked? I don't think they're in Crooklyn trying to dig up dirt on a church. If something's reported to them, I'm sure they'll look into it.

Don't have time to write out a translation of the whole thing, but here is the gist of it:

It is a letter from the Madrid Bethel branch "to all congregations", presumably all congregations in Spain, dated April 1 2009.

The Governing Body recently informed the Madrid Bethel branch that that branch will cease to print, warehouse and distribute literature "within a few months". The Bethel offices will remain open to take care of things like organizing assemblies, overseeing regular & special pioneers, and "many other" things.

This adjustments will necessitate further changes in the branch which will be communicated soon.

The letter quotes something which apparently comes from the GB letter sent to the Madrid branch, expressing their appreciation for the Madrid branch's support for many years and they are convinced that Jehovah has blessed them.

There is a reminder that even though no printing will be done in Spain any more, don't forget to contribute to the worldwide work.

The letter is to be read to the congregations ASAP.

Looks like more Bethel layoffs...only this time in Spain.

Anyone know how big the branch there is?

The blog thereafter picks apart and analyzes the letter, quite flamboyently & sarcastically, speculating on Bethel layoffs among other things. He makes an interesting point though: This directive came from the Governing Body. According to what was written in 2000 / 2001 or so, the GB was separated from the Watchtower legal corporations so they could concentrate exclusively on "spiritual matters". How is it then that the GB is the one to send a letter to the Madrid branch that their printing services are no longer required (i.e., a business decision)?

The WTS has always been a scandalous scam from day one, a commercial venture that was fronted by religious faith.

Even in Europe they are getting wise to this dishonest endevour.

Interesting. How many WTS branches are in UE countries? On the 2008 JW Statistics it shows a total of 115 branches.

In the Spain Branch, there are 250 bethelites. Furthermore, they have a 450 apartments..., almost 400 unused, empty. They thought in the future, but future fails. That's Watchtower system. Now, the Governing Body Bank can sell the property.

He makes a good point. However, what should one expect from a group that calls itself a GOVERNING body? It obvious that that separation was legalistic cover for them be able to say and do what they want and distance themselves when they need.
