I would pull out my copy of "Thy Kingdom Come" and show the poor fellow that he has no clue what he's talking about. And tell him to maybe find facts before preaching nonsence. Mayans predicted 2012 so they're closer than Russell ever was even if the end came this year LOL How would they explain that one???

I'm with all those that ask them to prove it.
"Don't stand there flappin' your gob, go and get the paperwork to prove it......and hurry up about it, Armageddon's coming!"

Show me! In writing! Show me where it was said that in 1914 there would be a world war that wouldn't really change anything and then 30 odd years later there would be ANOTHER WW and then 70 odd years after that the world would still be chugging along just fine... Show me where that was written and published from BEFORE 1914...
Russel was the brownboy of his day. He just spouted shit from sunup to sun down! None of it ever came close to coming true. Now if he had been a resurrected transvestite jesus living in a dumpster... Well none of it would come true in that case either but it sure would have been more entertaining! (where is JC anyway?)

Some old timer JWs (and probably some newer ones as well) say that they (The Watchotwer) predicted World War I which broke out in 1914.
They apparently truly believe that statement.
This goes back all the way to Rutherford. In Millions Now Living Will Never Die, Rutherford said on page 85 under the subheading 'Kingdom Coming In':
"Elijah was a type of the followers of Christ Jesus; and the Lord used him to picture the events transpiring in the world, as we have heretoformentioned. In fulfillment of the antitype, the Elijah class knew that war was coming and one of them, the Lord's faithful servant, Pastor Russell for forty years pointed that it would come in 1914."
Of course, Russell predicted God's war of Armageddon, not World War I. But that didn't stop Rutherford from revising this fact. The next sentance says:
"The Lord is not in the war, meaning that the Lord's kingdom is not yet in full sway."

In the thread
Rutherford LIED about BS historical doctrines!
http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/bible/173904/1/Rutherford-LIED-about-BS-historical-doctrinesthe user civicsi00 made the following post, which is very relevant to the subject of this thread:
Also visit Barbara Anderson's site, www.watchtowerdocuments.com, scroll down until you find the PDF entitled 1940_Peddlers_of_Paradise. Whoever wrote the article for American Life was able to tell that Rutherford had indeed changed Russell's predictions about 1914. On page 4, on the right side of the page, it states:
"Witnesses have twisted his [Russell] prophecy and say he foresaw the World War."

I appears that Judge Rutherford himself was going around saying that The Watchtower (Russell) had "predicted World War I"
Who did Rutherford think he was saying this?

I think the only correct response is to do what others here have mentioned, call their bluff. They have been told by the WTS that they essentially predicted the war, but no real evidence is ever provided. Various quotes are given, but they are usually cut off and the context is missing. Ask them to provide the evidence for their claim.
