thanks! nice story.
Randy
Kudos to you for being so supportive of your Son!!! If more parents were like you, there would be far less depressed young ones in the world who are going through the same types of things. My Transgendered friends have been through a LOT, and have suffered things that I couldn't even imagine.
All the best with your interview tomorrow!
thanks again lovely people....
just finished a 2 hr interview
with the young woman who
will be writing the article ....
i am an emotional heap...
having to share so openly
about the impact on our lives
surrounding my son's transgender
issues .... enumerating the horrors
that befall this niche community
that is so often brutalized because......
because why?
at any rate....
the article is out of my hands....
thank you all so much for the
support and well wishes
@randy>> i will tell my son what
you are requesting and see
what he wants to do with it....
this is his story, mate...
Any word, Chickpea?
the newspaper article about
my transboy (and me) made
front page yesterday....
i had seriously expected it
to be buried in the second
section with other "school" news
3 column picture and intro
that went below the fold
then a 4 column story to
just below the fold on the
back page of the section.....
that, my friends, is space...
the article was accurate, informative
and hopefully educational...
this being sunday morning....
i would love to be a fly on
the wall at the KH i attended...
(if this little local paper
ever manages to get a
link up, i will post it...
i dont know the circulation
but it does serve 2 counties)
Front page, Wow! Actually something similar has been in the news with the suicide of a 12 year old boy who was allegedly being taunted and ridiculed about being considered gay. Maybe someone saw the time as right to bring issues like this to the forefront.
carl walker-hoover never identified
as gay.... a mere perception led to
the daily bullying and harrassment
that led an 11 YO to hang himself
in his family's home....
national Day of Silence
was held across the nation
on april 17th, which would
have been carl's 12th birthday....
GLSEN dedicated the day to him
and his mother participated in
DoS events in her community....
the Safe Schools Advocacy Summit
which adrien and i attended culminated
in a lobbying effort to have the Safe Schools
Improvement Act passed to amend the
Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities
Act to add bullying and harassment to the
language of the law, enumerating the categories
to include orientation (real or perceived), gender
identification/expression and disability...
(we also asked our legislative members to
co-sponsor the congressional resolution for
Day of Silence)
the bill (HR3132) also mandates teacher training...
"that is so gay" is no more acceptable than saying
anything else that impugns another's expression
of some characteristic that is intrinsic to their being....
yet it goes uncorrected/redirected on a daily basis
in hallways and classrooms throughout the nation....
