  There would have to be controls to prevent the same people voting for each other all the time. Like on RedAlert - you can't play your friends to get easy wins ...

  Any weighting would naturally decay over time so people being rated highly would not keep their high rating just as people who were rated badly.

  Hey Simon, it was nice to hear you thinking creatively along the same lines. I do agree that there is no one solution fits all here but more innovative thinking is needed because the more popular a place becomes, the more attraction it is to trolls and troublemakers. Yeah, 50,000 people is just a wild figure I threw in there for the shock value but it served my point though right?

  Have you looked at the layout on
  . www.slashdot.org to see how they manage many more posters than we do? Yes, you can make limits on postings and new threads and all that. It sure helps some but you haven't solved the problem of multiple users. Even if you monitored ISP data, it is not difficult for many trolls to have multiple accounts to lay their eggs.

  Expatbrit, I wouldn't want a conspiracy to develop either between mods. It would be easy to detect though, and see my post to Radar's comments about a few ideas.

  Outlaw and Bigboi...you could still have your version of the Wild West but please do it in a room that is bullet proof as I hate those damn things flying all over the place when I'm trying to drink my morning cup of tea!

  Multiple accounts are always going to be a problem - hey, I'll rate myself as 'great' with a second account ... and a third (in fact, maybe this is why those site's have so many registered users ui the first place?). I think the only real way around it would be to charge people to use the site, even if it was a nominal amount, as this is hard to do without confirming your identity. I would be hesitant to do this though (although if there were that many people using it I doubt I could afford to keep running it otherwise).

  Well Fred,

  How nice of you to justify what I wrote about. LOL! I figured that the trolls and troublemakers would be the ones who complain the loudest and most bitterly about the rules of the playground changing.
