Oh yeah, my opinion. As a disciple of Hillary, I agree with his post to a t. U may not, but I dot.

Except for the moderator part. lol. But that is only 95%, I'm sure we can work something out. A slave is greater than his massster ishe not?

Actually, I say NO NO NO to moderation here. But I say YES, YES YES to the idea of another board being set up to adress the needs of people in the organization still. I can't tell you how important Wit.net was in getting me out. It was moderated, just not nearly as heavily as WOL. I should know, I was at one time the only moderator. Talk about an ulcer inducing job! I lost more than a little sleep trying to keep that thing moderated.

Actually, this is a bloody important thread and I agree with much of Mindchilds foundation.
There are a lot of people who desperately NEED this forum to come to
I am one of them. But I dont like people hunting me looking for a fight. Yet I have hunted others myself.

Why dont you split the board?
A NICE main board. A NASTY main board.
In the nice main you are not allowed to hunt people for your own gratification. The nasty main board is a wild west show, anybody who ventures in there cops whatever they get.No moderation in the nasty board. Control of discussion in the nice board would have to be based on multiple opinion, but then, I think all posters would comply with the intent.I agree there is cancer in the board. Its going in a death direction.

Hello Disciple Six and non-disciple MC, lol

Yes, my post certainly is indicative of my own dichotomy and as I hope you gathered I can clearly see both sides of the issue hence my struggle.

I am fairly new to online-venues, having made my first post anywhere on a Board venue apart from the music discussion Board which I belong to and is private , in April of this year to this Board. I will also admit that for the few weeks before that, I lurked for a while at H20, but until that point had not viewed any of the sites on offer online. So perhaps this is early days for me and I have yet to break my teeth and settle my own heart on the issue of the responsibility of our words and how they effect others lives.

Like Disciple-Six, I do see the need of a site with a more user-friendly tone for those who wish to take their first leap from the ‘jumping off point’. Ros on Channel C is attempting this type of venue, probably what MC described as a ‘G’ rated site, and has had among other ‘elitist’ ( only joking folks! ) posters Carl Jonsson, Greg Stafford, Amazing, Just2Laws and a few others. I hope that it helps those who need a mid-way house to find a little comfort in their lives.

Anyway interesting discussion - it certainly raised Fred Hall’s furry hackles -- HS

I think you can only go so far with 'ratings'. One thing about responses...is that on a good thread you have about 10% of the people that read it actually post a response. So 90% read it and do not comment. Often its the topics that create difficulty that are the most popular in terms of no. of responses

Hey Skipper, why should Fred change his board image?I don`t always agree with him but at least he speaks his mind!I like that in a person, even if I disagree with them.A moderator would change all that and your own comment about Fred proves my point. The board has gotten this strong because it has been able to take its own natural course, and it will get stronger!Leave the board as it is,if you start fucking with it it will die.If this board dies I will be pissed!!!!!!!!!!!...OUTLAW

Outlaw...dude chill a bit and have a cold one with me as I try to explain a few things that might make you see that I'm not trying to take away your freedoms. In fact, I want you to keep your freedoms.

Let's use the power of illustration here to look at what is reasonable and what is absurd. I don't know what kind of car you drive my friend but for the moment I will imagine it will be a hopped up sports car that goes from 0-80 in 3 seconds and does wheelies on command. Now, you happen to enjoy crusing down JW.Com boulevard and you hate speed bumps, you hate red lights, and you especially dislike cops who want to do a little power trip on you.

Hey, I wouldn't blame you a bit but taking this a bit further, do you want to extend your rights to drive to include the sidewalk, running over little old ladies in wheelchairs and putting the pedal to the metal in an elementary school zone? Unless you want to be a smart ass, the answer would be you realize there needs to be compromizes to let everyone get around without getting whacked by a free spirited and fun loving guy!

Now, I don't know you to be one of the bad guys who delight in hurting people and that is a sign of maturity if that is so but there are those who come here who don't know how to drive or if they do, they are so damn sick they need to be in therapy. I'm not advocating the standard moderator system but an invisbile one that gives everyone a chance to express their own taste. The idea is not to so much get the really groovy posts always out there in front of everyone's face as it is to keep the childish and hurtful stuff at the edge of the dump.

Take Fred Hall for example. Fred has become more or less a status symbol around here and even his enemies laugh at his posts. It wouldn't be so funny though if Fred was an extremely angry ex-dub who was intent on making everyone else's life miserable and believe me I've seen that type a few times before.

So, maybe the rating system gives everyone the idea that you gotta have great posts or you are going to be buried in the mountain of posts and you might as well not be here at all. NOT SO. If you followed the program Slashdot.com used people get stingy with their ratings and normally only a few exceptional posts stay out in front and the rest is pretty much standard fare unless it is crap.

I want you be able to cruise Dude and you can have Fred Hall sitting in the seat next to you if you want and no hard feelings. Just lay off running down little old ladies and keep it off the sidewalk is what I'm pushing for.

First off before any system can be established, youhave to point out exactly what the problem is. IMO, this system that certain posters seem to want on the board is more or less a way of being able to shut up anyone they want, when they want. How is that gonna encourage more freedom here?
